cyber bullying getting worse

Cyberbullying extends to workplace, bedroom

Cyberbullying is no longer restricted to children. Adults routinely use content from Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social-media services to intimidate and harass subordinates and rivals at work.

"Adults are now finding themselves in uncharted territory when it comes to social media," says Jenny Ungless, a life coach and workplace consultant. In a recent global survey of 4,000 adults, 82 percent of respondents agreed that posting or messaging defamatory remarks about a colleague amounts to cyberbullying. And 9 percent disclosed incidents in which information gleaned from a social-media service was used to their detriment by a manager.

We recently had a case of a disgruntled employee using company email to send rather disturbing messages to staff. They were caught and prosecuted by police pretty quickly, but they upset quite a few people (obviously people who's skin hadn't been hardened by QL :P )

Cyberbullying is a worrying aspect of social media. Sadly, people use it to inflict psychological pain. On the other hand, we have also become less tolerant and less able to take jokes.

I love to dip my feet in the idiots paradise of QL, it makes me feel superior.

It's not my problem monkey man as I am not offended by anything you or others say, however some of the people here do get offended and started asking for jail and deportation when a person just stated their point of view. Your faith must be weak.

Frenchies said "This site may not be subject to Qatari law and this you cannot confirm" Sure I can confirm it. Qatar is a sovereign nation whose laws are confined to its own borders. It's not that hard to understand. Qatar living is governed by its own guidelines, which states in rule #5 not to threaten people.

I love how all the bullies are now migrating to this thread trying bully people again.

I don't see how it is possible to insult a religion. Does any religion have feelings? Does it make that's religions beliefs go away if it is insulted?

By anonymous• 19 Feb 2013 19:56

This site may not be subject to Qatari law and this you cannot confirm,

but most of those using it are in Qatar and to be in this country and insult the religion of its people is not ok and severely punishable by law.

Why is it so hard to understand?

Say whatever you want but DO NOT insult our religion.

Yes, that is a classic example of QL bullying. Unable to when an argument they resort to threats (the clearest sign they have lost the argument and no it). My guess is that they guys spend much of their days being bullied by others.

For the idiots who try to bully others by suggesting that something they post on QL is punishable by Qatari law and they could get deported:

Qatar Living is not subject to Qatar's Laws. Nor are the contents of the posts on it--many of which according the QL's own reports for advertisers, aren't even in the region.

This is because Qatar Living is listed as a company in the US and uses servers in the UK; or it was. It certainly isn't in Qatar or using servers in Qatar. All of this is public information and has been discussed before.

I agree FathimaH. The survey in the story caught me be surprise. I knew is was problematic amongst teens, but I didn't realize it was such a workplace problem (no doubt largely because of the line of work I am in). I have heard of some places banning social media in the workplace for productivity reasons; I wonder if it is a good idea for reasons of bullying too.

I wish more adults would speak openly about this, because clearly a lot of people are suffering in silence, thinking they are unique in being bullied like this.

A very insightful and timely read in my case. Having faced some unpleasant situations recently I can fully comprehend and grasp the crux of this article. Cyber bullying is just as disturbing and malicious as any other form of "real life" bullying. And it can also carry disastrous effects.

But just like your everyday school yard/workplace bully, the cyber bully too needs to be dealt with firmly and not be allowed to go around playing havoc on the lives and reputation of others. Action needs to be taken by those in authority against these bullies, and the victims need to speak up against them too. Remember many a bully preys on the weak and cowardly!

Why don't you get the hell out of here if you two are not happy?

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

I am always amazed at the level of cyber bullying going on even on anonymous sites like QL. Hardly a day goes buy without some threatening to find someone else, have them deported (if the anonymous user claims to be of a certain nationality), threats to hunt them down, threats to have them removed from QL.

I hate to think how bad these people are in the workplace, when they actually know the people they are attempting to bully.
