Medical tests at home only for citizens of 11 countries

DOHA: The rule that foreign workers must undergo a medical check-up in their home country before they arrive here to take up jobs applies only to nationals of 11 Asian and African states.

All workers coming from these countries, including unskilled and semi-skilled workers and professionals, must take medical tests before travelling to Qatar. Nationals of other countries coming here to work are exempt from this rule.

Its nothing new.. A lot of countries already have this rule. Remember the first job of any government is to protect its citizens so can't see the problem with this

They get them well, medically checked and all health checks done and then they are put up in such unhealthy and unhygenic places with overflowing garbage skips and oveflowing septic tanks that contributes to this guys regularly getting sick and running to the hospitals

What suprises me is that all this guys seem to be perfectly well and fit when they get to this places but maybe staying in those cramped accomodations at the labour camps, living ten to a room and bad living conditions like that exist in the Industrial area must be contributing to the people from this above countries people getting sick, catching diseases, etc. compared to this conditions, the conditions prevaling back home must be more comfortable

Makes sense to me. Most dangerous diseases and poor medical care can be found in Asia and Africa so why wouldn't you want these people tested before they come to your country.

i failed to completely understand the article...

are they going to implement this rule for all... or limited to the 11 countries (including my home country) only? any specific reasons? is my country and the other 10 the only ones vulnerable to diseases that can be brought to Qatar?

last time i checked, diseases attack indiscriminately

:)
