KBC gets first female jackpot winner
Surmeet Kaur Sawhney, a 37-year-old housewife has become the first female participant to won Rs 5 crore on the popular game show Kaun banega Crorepati (KBC) on Sony Entertainment Television.
Sawhney, who hails from Punjab and married in Mumbai, is a 12th pass woman, who teaches kids at her home.
She is also the second winner of the huge prize money. Last season, Sushil Kumar from Bihar had wone the jackpot in the show hosted by Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan.
A format show, based on international game show ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’, KBC was launched in India on Star Plus in the year 2000. In 2010, Sony Entertainment acquired the rights of the show, and it remains among the most popular game shows on TV.
The episode featuring Sawhney winning Rs 5 crore will be aired on January 11.
