Oooh you lucky thing - I would - just make sure the chimney flue is open before you do. I'll have to make do with sitting outside over my firepit! Still, I will be able to make Smores :)

Hi,

Qatar's winter temperature can drop below 10'c, then I support that it's cold and dry (instead of cold & wet) as it is a desert area?

Are safe heaters available there purchase? I need warmth in winter ...

Thanks.

Dont bother about the winter in Doha, it would be more like summer in Poland.

You will enjoy the so called "winter" here.

It doesnt go 30 below 0 like in poland.

You can get be the winter here in shorts and T Shirts ocassionally wearing full trousers.

The manual in Our AC in the house got heaters you can adjust the temperature but tried it a lot it's just so useless!

By jauntie• 31 Aug 2007 22:32

I guess they must be used to it and so have, maybe, air conditioners that convert to heaters? Or, more probably, have had heaters in their houses for yonks!

What about the new buildings going up - do they have heating built in?

By cygnet_chay• 31 Aug 2007 22:23

Yeah i wonder why they did'nt build fire places in the villas...it gets really cold..... specially the floor my feet are always freezing, need to get ugg boots before i go back there...

Surely there's something that could be recycled to burn, there's enough trash lying around!

I find it SO hard to believe it can get so cold, but my husband assures me that our flat was like a fridge last winter (he sat in the bath for hours before going to bed just to warm up! lol). It's the way the properties are built i.e to keep OUT the heat!

But now I have heard so many say the same I guess I have to believe it and grab a heater or two as soon as I see any appear in the shops!

a fireplace. I wonder why they don't build them into the villas? There's somethng primitive and comforting in building a fire and gathering round on a cool evening. Fan heaters are horrible.

It actually doesn't matter where are you from.. most of my life (at least 75%) i lived in the coldest countries in the world.. but i HATE cold.. Last winter in Doha I was constantly freezing.. as a matter of fact I still can not get really warm, because of these A/C.. You see? My boyfriend is from one of the hottest countries in the world, and he can not stand heat.. we always argue, he wants to put A/C up to the coldest tip, I want to put it down...LOL...

So adriana, if you don't like cold, better bring all your warm clothes to Doha, including boots...

We arrived xmas week and melted several of those cheap Chinese heaters before the end of the year! I'm going to be ready with some decent heaters this year.

I remember last winter was so cold but I didn't have any heaters, so I had to cover up in thick blankets lol. Doesn't help that I had tile flooring as well.

In general though, Winter time is usually great for me. I think the weather can be perfect.

it kinda gets pretty cold. As DaRuDe said, 8 to 10 degrees. This may sound high, but when it rains or there is a wind, it feels much colder.

I will second DaRuDe, last year, there was a shortage of room heaters in Qatar, people were even willing to pay a premium for a small one.

Better to be prepared than spend sleepless night shivering with the cold. Granted the cold snap does not last long, but who would want to give up their sleep.

Days are pretty warm. Last year, I think, it was about a day or three that was very cold during the day and that was due to heavy rains.

By DaRuDe• 31 Aug 2007 12:58
DaRuDe

temp can drop to 10 or 8 also here. yea its sunny and its cloudy also and raisn too and when it rains then the temp drops. last year all the outlet in Qatar were runout of Heaters. they had to import thousand of them from Dubai.

well....

So i see that warm clothes are needed during the winter. i've always considered Qatar as really hot country. And probably it is but only during the summer...

So average temperature in winter is about 14 C? sunny?

By DaRuDe• 31 Aug 2007 12:51
DaRuDe

thin coat bet you now you wear that thin coat here in winter specially in dunes at night its totally like a freezer i couldnot step out of my car and turned that damn heater on full mode and the moment i would step out the cool breeze went through out my soul.

Where as i belong to a place where there is snow and extremly cold temp might drop even to -5 sometimes. but this winter here in Qatar is kinda strange.

Winter in DOha is splendid. The climate is mild during the day and cold if the wind blows. It is real cool at night.

No snow except your freezer ice maker.

Last year I heard the temperature was 9 degrees. Hehe, it won't be cold, but you need a thin coat especially in the evenings. And it's raining sometimes, too.

You're from Poland! I'm sure you can handle winter here. last year it went down up to 14 degrees. but it's already too cold for me, I have to wear winter clothes with globes and boots.
