is tap water drinkable after boiling?

I experienced 2 times that the water after boiling has a certain smell like disinfector. Do they control the quantity of chemicals in water treatment? Is it ok to drink the tap water after boiling?

especially here in Qatar where water is produced through processing... tap water had never been customary for me to drink... should only be from a bottled ones...

i guess it depends on how anyone measures water purity at their level... some people here drink on that yet they do look healthy as well...

long live aquafina.....but then again its all the same @!#$, if its in the stores, then its safe for you, no self respecting government would look the other way on something as important as drinking water, and qatar has very high standards....as for tap water, i dont have a doubt that while the standards are very high, however water travels, and i doubt that the pipes carrying it are all sterilized and bacteria/germ free, hence the reason i despise drinking from tap water in all countries...

hehe...if possible, i really prefer tap water. In China, every doctor will recomend tap water rather than any bottled ones. Only not certain abt here...and the tanks after all day "sun-bath"

I drink all of these (in no particular order):

Water directly from the tap... :)

Masafi

Safa

Evian

Others?

I hate the taste of rayan water...

I've never been sick after drinking tap water (yes unboiled, directly from the tap, maybe i'll even try drinking from the garden hose! ).

Eve, you might have an allergy from Rayyan water. The water is perfect and certified for sure!

Don't drink Rayyan water even QP stopped using it. I get ill when I drink it all the hotels use it and put their name on it. Water here also depends on how often your water tank is cleaned. Sometimes the water even smells fishy as it is desalinated water. I like Gulfa or Masafi, even the big bottles of water for the water coolers they claim are not good to use as the plastic is not clean. Don't drink water if the plastic bottle is in your car and gets hot chemicals leach from the plastic. I would rather be safe than sorry.

My friend disapproves, but I figure the controls in the distribution of tap water are probably about as good as those in the bottling plants.

I do keep two 5 gallon containers of the bought stuff, but that is mainly me being defensive, thinking about what would happen if the mains burst or the desalination plants stopped working for whatever reason.

These get drunk gradually over the course of a month, but are then immediately replenished. I suspect you wouldn't want even the bottled water sitting around for monthe on end.

Perfectly OK once you've boiled it. I recall Dasani or one of the bottling companies that sells water was found out to be selling boiled water that had no special treatment in the UK some few years back.

try taking the disinfectant out of the glass before you drink...should stop the taste....

Duhh, of course not. I just won't drink the water if I can avoid it. I'm not paranoid about it, though, but I'd rather avoid having kidney problems in the future.

So you use bottled water to Brush & Rinse your mouth, wash your dishes & Glasses ??????????????????????????????????????

Apparently the water here is too hard and could damage the kidneys after a while. But this is what I heard, I'm not really sure if it is true. I'd rather play it safe and not drink tap water. I don't even give it to my cats. I guess I'm afraid of the vet bills : )

Each year they publish a report detailing the minerals etc found in the tap water here. I have been here for 4+ years and it has always passed with flying colors and found safer than water in most American cities. I always use tap water for food preparation and have used it for drinking numerous times, although I prefer the taste of bottled water.
