Positive Thinking

Architect with interest
By Architect with ...

Having spent some time looking through the various posts, the majority of them seem very negative towards life in Doha,

I'm originally from the Uk, and have just accepted a position there, and will be moving from Dubai to Doha with my family next month,

So i can feel better about my decision, can people list positive and nice things about the city.

Positive Only please...... as i've heard all thats to be said negatively.

Many thanks

when people post negative things about some place it doesn’t mean they hate this place. They just bring up to the forum the existing problems, leaving advantages of the place “behind the screen”… Even myself.. I usually either just chatting about nothing (blah-blah-blah) or participate in the discussions regarding certain issues… Does it mean I hate Qatar?? No! I am in love with Qatar, that’s for sure…sorry, but I just don’t come up to the Forum with the topic “wow! It is SO great to live in Qatar!” every single day … And because I love Qatar, I want to see it better and better… and as known the first step to improve things is to bring the problem up, to discuss it and then try to find the way for improvement. So sometimes there is nothing wrong with the highlighting issues and discussion problems...

but you seee? as soon as architect asked about POSITIVE sides of living in Qatar, we were able to find dozens of them...

and...here you go...Sky is amazingly blue, Sun is spectacularly Bright, Sea is fabulously gorgeous, Life is absolutely beautiful… Hamdulillah!!!

to be able to walk on the Corniche late at night, no rowdy yobs coming out of pubs, just a nice peaceful walk. No loud music coming from nerly every car you pass. Great for kids, can't wait for my 4 year old Grandson to visit.

Yes, I think you will enjoy life here in Doha.

There's nothing perfect in this world. But it is you who can touch it up and make things on it's best. I love Qatar, i love everything in here. If you are a jolly person, you will surely enjoy here, start it here in QL.

WELCOME!!!

Could we discuss in private your moaning, groaning and grumbling inside my confession Booth?

I know is not a perfect Booth, like always is a very interesting booth, when people want to live their life's in perfection and harmony.

the thing with humans is they are never satisfied or grateful. they moan and groan and grumble. nothing seems to satisfy them(not all ok )they expect everything to be as per where they come fr but that is never the case. where ever you go make the most of it. each place is diff.back to doha , have been here since 2004 and am enjoying every day that i am here cant imagine the day when DH says ok thats it time for us to go. yes indeed no where is perfect but take it with a pinch of salt.life for us here in doha than wat it was back home lots of opportunities here for us to do wat we could not back homeand as for family life it has been wonderful.no hustle bustle of the rat race we left behind so we are enjoying it until the time comes when eventually we have to live. so in the meantime enjoy it, lifes an adventure make the most of it. think positive it overcomes the negativities(if there is such a word....lol)hope i am makin sense............:O)

I'm about to pick up and move to Doha in a few weeks as well. When I first started looking for information, I was absolutely stunned to read some very negative comments. It reminds me when I moved to Saudi 10 years ago; lots of folks had terrible things to say about it but I went ahead and thought, "I will find out for myself." It turned out to be a very unique and enjoyable experience and I loved it there for four years. I am very pleased to be coming to Doha and even though I may encounter some not so lovely things/people/experiences, I will keep my mind and heart wide open and enjoy! I also agree with the comment about naysayers still living there when they dislike it so much - why? I'm all for keeping positive thoughts and an accepting attitude. Many thanks for this thread as it is comforting to newcomers to hear nice things about "their" new country.

Cheers,

Molly

Good question, 'Architect with...'!

Waaaay too many negative comments on this forum. Be grateful people as the VAST majority of people in the world don't have even 10% of what we have. The fact that we've got the time and oportunity to chat on the Internet is a blessing in itself.

I too am due to move to Qatar in the next few weeks. I've never been to the Mid-East, but I did self-screen out many of the -ve comments (without being delusional) on the basis that there are too many -ve comments.

I too am moving to Doha in March and some of the negative comments on here were starting to make me feel hesitant about moving but I'm glad some positive things have been said about Qatar. I personally can't wait to get there and think it will be a great place to live.

i have been here for 2 weeks, and i must say i was shocked....i expected no night life, i was in pearl on friday, i loved that place, i expected racist nationals, i worked with some for 2 weeks, and they never made me feel unwelcomed, traffic jams are not a major problem, some congestion on some roundabouts, but thats nothing compared to dubai, gr8 malls, maybe not as crazy as dubai, but its a start, good pay, booming economy so the only way for opportunities is up, so far so good, and no complaints.....

make sure your accommodation is covered by company completely. Accommodation is very expensive here may be even more expensive then in Dubai, or at least the same... so just negotiate for the full coverage rather then for the housing allowance...

got that hugs, nice and warm!

Yeah! I agree with you, people tend to moan all the time and yet they are still here! People should learn to appreciate what Middle East has to offer, anywhere else they work hard but they never had this benefits and generosity!

It's great to be loved!

thanks, i made that mistake on coming to Dubai from home (England) as I didn't research fully the cost of living compared to allowance,,,,,, I stupidly thought that my new employer may be tell me the truth. Not the case. I've not going to made the same mistake again, and have researched the costs.

It's been a pleasant relief to hear some nice positive things, I am more confident my family and i will enjoy life there.

At the moment, we're not enjoying Dubai to much. We're more interested in our family life than spending time walking around mile upon mile of Mall filled with simialr if not the same shops, or going out clubbing. those days are left behind some time back.

The job i'm taking seems really interesting and with great future prospects. And I can't wait to Arrive..... positive until proven otherwise.

If your housing allowance is fully covered (not allowance) ..., and your other basic package are sorted you should enjoy your time in Doha.

Doha is a good place to raise a family :D

I know it's not nice to hear this but there truely are alot of negative people here. I welcome them as a national with open arms, however when I see the amount of exaggeration sometimes and amount of negativity, it kind of makes me wonder why they would choose to live here if they didn't like it so much.

Qatar is unique place. If you want to compare Dubai with Qatar, there's more to do in Dubai, but you'll easily see that events, venues, and entertainment is something that is sought after here and places are sprouting like wild fire.

Life is cheaper than Dubai (this includes both cost of living and accommodation)

You'll save alot of energy commuting here since traffic is less than Dubai.

If you want to settle in somewhere and enjoy watching a nation booming, this is the place to be.

@mystica, HUGS FOR YOU ^_^ y

almost every weekend, when the weather is good. They leave on Thursday evening, take tent and sheesha with them, BBQ, and all this stuff...they come home on Friday night.. very nice.. I join them once a while, but every weekend is too much for me.. i have other stuff to be busy with...and there is no internet in desert...lol..

I like qatar for the reason that Mom-Me highlighted. Qatar is better specially for families...

And I like the Policies of our Sheihka, which are education and culture development oriented. Government invests huge funds in development of these very important fields of life – education, art, culture, family. Dubai looks like more BAZAAR for me...but it could be my personal opinion...

I love Qatar!

Life is easier here in Middle East in general. People say it's expensive but they do give you all sort of benefits which you can't have in your own country. Never been this spoiled when it comes to living luxuriously where they provide everything for you to make you feel comfortable to live in their country, Never been to a generous country where they are happy to give you loan to buy car and personal loans. Lots of nice and big shopping mall to kill your time if you ever feel bored. I never feel bored here myself!

It's great to be loved!

Peaceful place.

Easy to go around at any time and to any place.

In worst case traffic hour u can cover the farthest points in Doha within 45 minutes.

Plenty of food joints.

Roads are nice except for the interior ones.

Poverty is almost non-existent compared to Dubai.

Traffic police is quick to respond to traffic congestions and accidents incidence specially in rush hour time.

Biggest advantage you'll be paid the highest for your work in Doha compared to any other place in this region.

I hope I have listed enough poistives. I have been a resident here since 1992 and seen doha evolve rapidly over time.

Infact now that I think here are a few more.

The pub scene is good. (No pestering from girls looking for free drinks.) Similarly not many ladies on road wanting a free ride. (Sorry again if it is a disappointment.). Restaurant are not cluttered atleast on weekdays, unlike Dubai.

lots of sporting events...free or cheap

The only positive thing in comparison to Dubai I can remember right now is the traffic. If you have been driving in Dubai you will find the roads less crowded. On the hind sight the driving is bad. (Sorry, I have to be honest).

Very peaceful and quiet here in comparison to Dubai. Also Qataris are nicer and more humble in comparison to emaratis.
