nurse working license

Hi there, My wife is looking to start working as a nurse she is qualified in the uk howeverit seems you need a license from the ministry of health to work as a nurse here. I have tried to find out about his but have not had any luck. Has anybody managed to get this license or experience in trying to get one. Any information would be very helpful
