Just a quick hello :-)

Hi there, I have just been offered a job in a school in Doha.
I am worried by reading the posts here regarding the cost of living. I have been told that it is a lot cheaper than the UK for food etc
My package will include accomodation, so I am not worried about the cost of renting a flat.
My salary will be in the region of 8000QAR per month, which I am happy with as the main cost of the flat is taken care of.
I will be coming out on my own in the next few weeks, and then hopefully if all goes well, my wife and 2 kids will come out in Sept.
I guess my question really is, is this enough to live on?. I won't need a car to travel to and from work, I WILL need broadband etc to keep in touch with my children. It is such an exciting time and I just want to make sure we will be a little bit better off eventually.
Hello and tahnks

Thanks for your reply, the school will be heavily discounted when we all move over, I think it would be less than half price (but need to clarify that)

Is DESS some sort of education support? I am really looking forward to it, but I want to make sure we have a better life than we have in the UK. The kids are 5 and 3 at the moment so one of them would probably be going to nursery.

Thanks again

Gerry

Will you package include school? If not then I don't think 8k is enough to live on. As a UK citizen you would be eligible for DESS, but I understand that the waiting list is miles long (many never clear it). The options for other schools run in the 50-60k+ per year. Even nurseries, in case your kids are only tots, are a good QR1,600-QR2,400 per month.
