Any comments on importing a US car into Qatar. I have a '98 Volvo, that operates only on unleaded, what kind of gas is in Qatar, and can my car use the gasoline / petrol?
GCC exemption duty only applies to cars imported after the Import Duty Agreement signed by GCC countries. It does not apply to cars imported into the GCC before that date. I think its 2003 but im not sure about the month.
Correction...You will have to shell out 5% of the current evaluation of the car as customs duty..You can import cars which are less than 5 years old...and you will get both 91 Octane and lower unleaded gasoline..
If you purchased your car within GCC...due to the custom union in the region..IF you can produce the original custom invoice of the car during purchase (arranged by your dealer in country of origin)..then you wont pay this duty..
The car has to be at least three years old, you must be a resident, no customs duty is charged on vehicles inported for personal use, and the only documents required is proof of ownership at origin. My question is about unleaded gasoline and whether or not I can get it...but I think it is available since 2001.
Even if it did, i recommend that people dont import cars from outside the GCC. First, if you still have a warranty, it becomes invalid and second, the agents here often extort a "registration" fee of anything upto QAR10,000 before they will put your car on their computer.
