By Khanan• 18 Jun 2008 07:12
Khanan

yes i am happy....where i live...

a stand alone villa in hilal...no traffic..no hussle..most importantly good and understanding neighbours...

Speed Pra..you need to change your accomodation soon.......its really bad how the landlords/agents act after they rented their properties...

like....when you turn on the light, you gonna swear your mom's ears off when you see the floors and walls and ceilings covered with cockroaches....uuugghhh.

me and our villamates told the landlord that we won't pay the rent unless he do something about it...and he did. He even had the backyard cleaned and the drainage fixed...lol

all bills inclusive flat. Theres a pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, good Gym and internet. Whats not to like. I have 1 bar within 30 seconds walk and another 5-10 mins walk. A few more bars and clubs a little further.

There are a whole load of restaurants/takeaways ,again,30 secs walk away.

The only downside is cos i live next to the US Navy base, all the bars tend to play all that crappy RnB and (c)rap music, which can get very tedious , but hey, thats life.

All in all, im content with my flat, cos its my home.

so, one bathroom services 7 adults (including me) and 4 kids (age 5 - 13) :-)

The kids know that they could make all the noise they want during the day anytime in the weekdays but not on FRIDAYS...which is my ONLY DAY OFF from work ;-)

but baby harry is a darling so i tend to borrow the lad whenever i'm home...lol

It's no bother with the kids as they do know the time of the day when their playing around the villa would not disturb the rest of the villa occupants especially on FRIDAY MORNINGs when everyone would like to sleep till noon...lol

other problem is outside the house like drain cover is loose and it smells bad during summer ... window lock is broken .... door bell not working since we moved in !

last week i fixed wireless bell myself.

One more surprising thing is that as told by real estate that in Doha most of the new villa will not have telephone cables (wire pulled from the main box in the room socket)

when Qtel came to our house they found that there is no cable in the socket upon asking the real estate he said i have to do it ... so i did it for Qr.400/- for 2 rooms only.

Such a cheap thought people has .... they invested millions for the construction but cannot buy a single phone cable or door bell ? LOL !!

Wow Azi, you share a house with four kids...you are one brave soul..I share my house with "my" two kids and often i think about moving out alone and leaving the house to them..lol....

and I'm quite contented with it though:

1. I have to share the bathroon with a family (with 4 kids) and 2 other couples

2. I share the use of the washing machine

3. If I feel like cooking, i could use any of the 5 gas stoves in the kitchen; the cooking utensils and condiments as well. My villa/housemates uses whatever condiments/spices i got stored in my little space in the kitchen cupdoard :-)

4. The villa is located in a private compound

5. Got my phone extension, wifi, cable tv and other appliances (coffee maker, fridge, microwave) inside my room so I do get a lot of PRIVACY

6. It's a few blocks away from our office

BOTTOMLINE: I LOVE IT :-)

I understand your anger and disappointment . And yes, it is a rip off, no question about it.

As for roads, even Cairo's bumpiest roads are not as bad..:)))And landlords there have not raised the rent for 50 years now. My apartment is spacious in a nice area. Well, just stay happy..:)

New villa with poor construction material and poor maintenance .... got the villa thru a real estate . !!!

landlord and real estate always fighting for the maintenance services (blaming each other that YOU should be responsible for XYZ maintenance)

I am going to pull both of them in the court soon ;-)

Nadt .... one more rent cheque to be stopped now !!

Whilst its true, we are very lucky than most, i absolutely agree with that, and im grateful for that but i always feel cheated here with rental apartments, we pay a lot of money for rent, and have no maitenace or rights, ive never rented in country where tenants are treated this badly...

Also roads are a disgrace, war torn lebanon has better roads than where i live...

Anyway at the end of the day, your right, we should be grateful for what we have...alhamdallah...

neighbor just gota new kid, and i feel involved in raising it, since i wake up in the middle of the night with them all the time lol

hate the road leading to my house, since its always congested with dumb a@# drivers who think its smart to double park on both sides....

kitchen should be renamed to "that little space which is used for nothing, requires genius ingenuity to cope with a s everyone hopaholics friday carrefour invasion"

my parking space is the building tramp....has to park their for a night and leave without so much of a word of thanks,,,,,

my flat attracts dust like like....my flat attracting dust their is no better simili...

but am i happy...yes its my first accomadation that i pay for from my own salary....so its my little piece of heaven..

But I really meant it. I have no major issues with the above. The feeling that I'm always enormously luckier than thousands of other people, makes me complain less. But I'm still very highly ambitious in pursuit for the better/best.

I am happy where I live because:

1- A lot of construction around.

2- A lot of dust and sand.

3- Pluming is an issue every now and than.

4- Bumpy roads to get to my building.

5- Heavy traffic.

6- The rent is high.

I'm surely lucky.

Good points

1.Apartment's got too much space. In fact, soo much space in the lounge and drawing room area that they could have built two additional rooms there.

2. Masjid near by

3. Its at equidistance from the grocery stores at al-sadd, center point, lulu, family food, royal plaza :)

4. Italian restaurant nearby

5. Trees outside

6. big kitchen

Bad points

1. Furniture is too old

2. Super is cranky

yes am happier with the company accomodation that we got nearly a yr ago :-

1) no more hassle with rentals and landlord(which we had for the 1st 3 yrs here)

2) gym and swimming pool in compound( so no need to pay for outside club membership)

3)24 hr security

4)regular pest control visits so no prob with bugs and lil pests and all paid by company and not fr our pocket

5)convenient location- 3 mins fr work place, groceries and malls

6) son has friends his age in compound compared to when we lived in a stand alone villa.

so far alhamdullillah.......

life's too short so make the most of it, you only live but once.......

1. The laundry service lost one sock

2. I've been on a waiting list to get upgraded to a larger apartment/room for over a month

3. I don't have a kitchen

4. I don't have a washing machine (refer point 1)

5. Room is too small (refer point 2)

6. A saw a cockroach last night (refer point 3 - so I don't know where it came from)

All is good otherwise.
