People of the Book - Ahle-al-Kitaab
How many of you have read the previous revelations Allah Sent down before the Qur'aan? Also, which chapter or which verse of the Qur'aan you love most or which has caused a big impact on your life and why?
As for me, yes I have read the Taurat, a little bit of the Zaboor and most of the Injeel.
As for my second question, The verse where Allah Mentioned that before Creation everything was in a gaseous state and he called the earth and the sky to come separate and he cleft the earth asunder...This relates to the Big Bang theory. That was an impact on my life. Being a student of Physics I found this most extraordinary because for a desert arab, illiterate as he was, Mohammad(PBUH) could not have said something like this 1400 years ago on his own intellect. It must be from Divine revelation
The verse I love most is where Allah Says: "Do not despair of my mercy." It gives me hope. The chapter that makes me terrified is Surah AL Maun: Fawayy lil Muswalleen. Tell me your views.
Injeel is what Christians called the new testaments. They have 4 books which are according to the disciples of Jesus(PBUH). Mark, Matthew, John and Luke. After that we have the Books of Revelations according to another John and a few more called Letters. These four books tell the story of Jesus(PBUH). But I dont think we have a clear idea of what constitutes the Injeel, i.e., what was revealed to Jesus(PBUH). Because no where in these four books, Jesus said: God has revealed this to me.
Instead and according to Jesus(PBUH)words, he was not sent with new rules like Moses(PBHU). He was sent to the lost tribes of Israel(referring to the Sadducees and Pharisees who were going astray) and to maintain the same Laws of Moses(PBUH) which were followed by the Jews of his time.
But these books have been written long time after Jesus departure from this world. They were written at different times under different governors. I have read them. I like the bit where Jesus said: Love thy enemy. Love thy neighbour. And he without sin let him cast the frst stone(relating to the stoning of Mary Magdalene).
But the Zaboor, man this is something solid. They called it the Psalms of David. The way Allah is praised in that book, wow, you'll love the words.
Btw, I professed many religion before I embraced Islam. I think my reading of the previous Revelations helped me appreciate the Quran and understand it more.
Regards.
Assalamu Alaikum Mr. Moodie
The Surat in Quran which have more impact on me is "Sura Asar" which talks about patience and luv. I am a bit hot tempered Man and whenever I feel angry I used to read this "Sura" which cools me..
Though I have not read Injeel I have heard from others that it is similar to Gospel of Jesus ( PBUH ) Is it true ?
For me personally nothing explains more about Gods love than a Gospel (New Testament of Bible.)
