hi, i am frm india and i hav been offered a job as a chemical engineer in qatar...i am offered 2000 QR and the company will provide me food n accomodation..do u think its a good package for a fresher? pls advise
1. Do not think that the salary offered is a net saving or that u will not spend anything more.
2. The cost of living is very high, much higher than in India
3. To live a typical middle class life in here you will need atleast 10000QAR+ if u r a bachelor or 6000+accomodation+food+transportation (ya even if u don't drink)
4. U start at a low salary..u get stuck to it and all subsequent changes will be proportional..don't think u will get more salary with any extraordinary performance.
5. As an Engineer you will be worked overtime without additional pay, you food will be lower than average, holidays are rare to come by.
6. So unless ur too bad off, dont take this offer
7. Get of the kerala mentality of working only in 'GELF'. This is not heaven. Getting Rs.15K in India is times better than the QAR.2K offered to u here.
Those who offered you 2000 Riyals, no guarantee that they will pay you on time and this will not be a good company, it is very cheap if you join there, you waste your time to study engineering, if you were uneducated I could offer you more! a office boy or driver job?!! Don't allow them to spoil the market rate and keep dignity of your Engineering degree.
I am a fresh chemical engineer fed up with searching jobs for a chemical engineer fresher in Qatar.I didnt find any.salary is not a matter for me,as i am looking to gain some experience.can anuone help me find a job for me?
to those who defends this offer, and who are giving hunger and lack of jobs in India as an excuse, and saying that many companies pay that low.. all you, do not complain later about "westerners, getting salary 10 times higher than non-westerners". It is YOUR choice, being an Engineer to accept a salary of tea boy or not to accept it.
Thousands of indians accept such insulting offers, and 6 months later start to complain about "westerns, getting salaries 10 times higher for the same position".
than 2000 free food and accommodation for an office boy? How long is the working time and what is the condition of an office boy or a driver? Who shoulder the driving license and who shoulder if the car had an accident? After five years, will the office boy be elevated to office manager? Lol!
Is it the same as BS or Bachelor of Science which is a five-year course? A technology course to us is a 2-year course while a science course is either a four or five year course leading to BS degree. Pass the appropriate government board exam and you get the title "Engineer". There is a difference between an "engineering" graduate from an "engineer". The latter is a title with license while the first is a course completed.
Now which is which, are you a Chemical Engineer or a Chemical Engineering graduate?
First of all, thanks for takin d time to reply mate,
im a Btech degree holder in chemical engineering...i graduated from University of Calicut, Kerala with a first class degree...also hav 18 months f experience...
d company in reference here is Sarvika & Co, Qatar WLL. at the time of interview, I didnt hav much idea as to what the cost of living in Qatar would be..and to be honest, the free food, accomodation and transport offer appeared good enough for me...
now, that so many of u guys who actually knows abt qatar have suggested to stay away frm this, I ought to do some rethinking...
i hav already sent a mail to the company regardin this and if they r not willing to stretch their muscles, then i think i wud say goodbye...
a big thanks to u all u brothers n sisters...take care
even for drivers ..reputed companies givs 3000 +accomodation+food+eraly ticket .....better drop it ,...or bargain for more as yu z an chemical engineer
No it's not good. Stay home, plenty of job opportunities for Chemical engineers back home in India. I heard Vedanta is hiring, try with them. Much better salaries and working conditions.

Forget a job as a fresher, gulf is not a place for freshers, get experience in India and then come here.
Raktwin
2k is too less a job but i know many come in!
You should get at least 6-8 k plus accommodation (sharing bachelor) and food and transportation as all thses are pretty costly here
here r some tips:
1. Do not think that the salary offered is a net saving or that u will not spend anything more.
2. The cost of living is very high, much higher than in India
3. To live a typical middle class life in here you will need atleast 10000QAR+ if u r a bachelor or 6000+accomodation+food+transportation (ya even if u don't drink)

hai,

50K, give it a try, nothing to lose! Actually, nothing to bargain!
for 20K? Must be kidding!
@jackmohan2007
okay, the company s takin care of the food n accomodation n transportation anyways...so, tats out f d equation
Cost of fast food....would be around QR 20.
Breakfst+Lunch+Dinner =QR 60 per day x 30 days = 1,800.
Cost of Transportation QR 25 one way. & QR50 (Up and down)
QR 50 x 30days = 1500. Some offices open & close twice a day. Then it will be QR 3,000.
So 1,800+ 3,000 = Qr 4,800.
You might want to send QR2,000 per month home.
So do your maths....
well said qatarisun

Do not accept it! Look for QAR.20,000. Simple.
don't even bargain with them, tell them flatly i don't intend to join at this salary, let them come up with a reasonable salary then negotiate

no no , btech is not d 2 years technical course u r talkin abt mate..
a Btech ( Bachelor of technology) is a four years full time degree course..
and ofcourse ths was from a recognized government institution..
Is it the same as BS or Bachelor of Science which is a five-year course? A technology course to us is a 2-year course while a science course is either a four or five year course leading to BS degree. all of u (Advisers) right, but you dont have experience of HUNGER. any body of these advisors can provide a job for him ? .
"nobody can prevent ADVANCEMENT OF SKILLFULNESS"
ask for 50K QAR, maybe they'll give you!

my son-in-law is also a chemical engineer & getting around 30K here in doha
Please let me know whether you are a diploma holder or a degree holder.
Please let me know your university also.
free food and accommodation. If you are entitled to an OT pay and you are assured of an OT of at least 2 hours a day, I think its okay.
Just remember, what you're offered is net. Now if you can equal it there in India, why go out?
Tinker I doubt. My office boy is paid more than that here.Eeven in India a normal customer service agent will begin with Rs.10 to 15k now a days.
I am not an engr.but i didn't start my first job in QATAR with such a low salary...
If you sign the contract, you are cheating to this engineering position. Better sign the contract with an amount of QR 20000/-
Better try it in India itself. You have good future. Good Luck.
Tinks .... how are you today?
dude have you missed any zeroes there? or dont your know the convertion rate?
Since the Q of "qatar" is not capital... I presume its just a troll...
