Are rental prices dropping?

Dubai is plummeting however Qatar is a different situation, but with so expats leaving dues to high rental costs and thousands of flats coming on the market especially on the completion of The Pearl surely a shift in rental prices is due. Has anyone sited a drop in rental prices yet?

as hotandsticky pointed out, dont fall into any agreement where the rent sounds cheap.. even i found a 2 bedroom unfurnished flat near Sana for QAR 3500/-, YES 3500/- only per month.... but refused to take coz i was asked to pay QAR 42,000 up front in three installment within the first month....... so its very unsafe to do such deal.. always make agreement with the OWNER not with ANY agents (however reputed they may be). and post dated cheque for a year. this is normal and safe. all the best.

I have been continuously house hunting for 3 months now and have definately noticed a drop in rentals. To my amazement I came across a 3 bedroom villa for 8000QR. It was spacious and well worth its value. I feel what I saw in places when I first started looking was less for its rental then what I have been looking at lately.

Whatever you vividly imagine, Ardently desire, Sincerely believe and Enthusiastically act upon, Must inevitably come to pass.

RULE #1 : NEVER EVER TRUST ANY REAL ESTATE AGENT OR DEVELOPER HERE IN QATAR, NOT A SINGLE ONE. EVEN NOW IN THESE CONDITIONS THEY WILL BLOW SMOKE UP YOUR BEHIND AND TELL YOU WHAT GREAT SHAPE THE MARKET IS IN, WHAT A GREAT INVESTMENT, GREAT THIS, GREAT THAT. NOT A SINGLE ONE I HAVE MET HAS EVER BEEN TRUTHFUL AND ALL HAVE GREATLY EXAGGERATED AND SENSATIONALIZED WHAT LITTLE POSITIVE IS OUT THERE. LOOK AT MADANIA IN DUBAI A COUPLE DAYS BACK, COULD NOT SELL EVEN ONE PROPERTY AT THE RESERVE PRICE. NOT EVEN ONE PROPERTY ! ! IT WAS DISASTER AND EVEN IN LIGHT OF THAT, TRUE TO FORM, THE UNSCRUPLUOUS CEO TRIED TO PUT A POSITIVE SPIN ON WHAT WAS A COMPLETE REPUDIATION OF UNREALISITIC PRICING THAT EXISTS IN THE GULF REGION TODAY. GREED AMONG THESE INDIVIDUALS SET IN DEEP AND WILL TAKE TIME TO ROOT ITSELF OUT. GOOD LUCK.

Now middle men are trying to trap people into long term contracts...up to 3 yrs....as they too are aware of the market conditions.

So the next time a real estate guy makes an offer of 3yrs dont take it. Insist on 1 year max as your RP is usually for one year only.

So why would you want to get into a contract which is longer than your RP?

As new and new flats are been constructed so their is a bright chance that house rents will decrease but it might be in SLOW PACE or might take 1-2 more years maximum INSHALLAH.

.

That's i'm saying from different articles published in local english newspaper in Qatar. so read newspaper on daily basis for updates about QATAR

I know couple of ppl left Qatar not able to put up with high rental.... They come here to earn, but when they get stripped with just the rent, then decide to return.

Again i did witness a drop in rent, but behold thats not actually 100%. the trend has changed, earlier we used to give post dated cheque for a year upfront. but now they are ready to reduce the price ONLY if you agree to pay the whole year rent upfront in CASH. yes, in CASH.... they are prepared to reduce even 40- 50% on rent.... but, hey how trustworthy is that when we read a lot of cases here in QL the agents cheat and they have problem with the owner lately and the tenant were asked to vacate in mid without any compensation... so think twice before going into such deals.

some people, especially the agents are holding out, (basically in denial) and leaving places empty. This situation should improved for the tenants as the year progresses but expect the market to stablise and rise slightly beggning of next year.
