Main Tasks – Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate appropriate and individual programs of care for patients with a wide variety of skin conditions and provide the necessary support, treatment, and health education.
- To develop specialist knowledge of the dermatological nursing practice.
- To be responsible for ensuring nursing practice is research-based and regularly updated within the scope of professional practice.
- Maintain a high standard of patient care within the Service, promoting the concept of safe practice towards individualized patient care, using up-to-date treatment and protocols.
- Comply with Health and Safety Legislation within the workplace.
- Maintain good communication with visitors, relatives, and other Services and organized bodies.
- Accept personal inquiries and encourage attendance for further discussion with relevant personnel.
- Work within the policies and procedures agreed upon by The Practice and adhere to the agreed clinical protocols and guidelines.
- Provide information and advice to patients attending the Service and over the telephone.
- Use the concept of reflective practice to enhance patient care.
- Assist in clinical procedures and clinical management of patients.
- Have a good working knowledge of current infection control procedures, complaints, accident reporting, waste management, storage, and administration of drugs.
- Be familiar with the laws and policies relating to the ordering, safe custody, and administration of drugs.
- Be an effective listener for all patients when the need arises and refer appropriately.
- Encourage multi-disciplinary activity within the unit.
- Be committed to your own professional development and to extend and improve skills to meet the needs of the service.
- Participate in individual performance reviews, setting objectives, and agreeing with a personal development plan with the line Manager.
- Develop skills through competencies in relation to dermatology.
- To report to the team any accidents/incidents or complaints which occur within the Service.
- To keep abreast of updated clinical practice guidelines and policies.
