Dear Nishant, I have already read these articles earlier but I decided to check with Banks before trusting these rumours. As I said already, Banks conformed that there no such tax. I do understand that this rumour certainly made us worried initially.

Please do not allow to spread this rumour. I checked with Indian Bank and they confirmed that there no such tax imposed. However this tax is on the remmittance fee, which exchange houses are charging to customers (QAR 15). The exchange house now have to pay 12.36% of QAR 15 as tax. If you wish you can check with your respective banks, you will get the same answer. T

i just went thru some sites on google and found this to be true.

if this has its way, its a big loss for people working here in the gulf (specially the low paid laborers).

a great solution for this would be to stop any remittance to India for just 2 days.

Hi Panjimgoa / Cherrukan,

what is the source of your information. i dont think any bank will deduct 12.36% service tax for an inward remittence.

its like paying them 12360 rupees for every 1 lakh rupees transferred.

i dont think its possible.

12.36% of the bank' service charge will be deducted from our remittance. It depends on the service charge of the bank.
