Women not good compared to men??

I was interviewed for a Network Engineer's position and just after a smooth interview, I was told that this position would not be suitable for me as I was a lady and women won't be able to handle things like men do for this field. And this was Doha's culture was his statement!

oh, I got it.. it might be a quota issue.. may be what he meant was that they have a MALE quota (a visa) for this position.. sure, that's what he meant..

Sometimes it just depends on the sponsors, i know companies that refuse to hire women as they cause a distraction to other male employees and thus no work gets done around the office. You may be well qualified for the job but then its just bad luck you are in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Woman and Men are equal. Men respect women so much here and the women respect them back. Its how the world should work everywhere.

Prism, this was my thought too.. why to give any reason for rejection, especially such a crappy one?

I am a man and applied for position as Gynecologist in a hospital, and they said they need a Woman for the job!

Many things change between sending out the invite to a candidadte to appear for an interview and when he/ she actually appears. BTW the guy who interviewed is nuts, he could have as well said that the company would get in touch with you later, only never to return... would have saved him the ire. Also just because someone appeared and in his/ her thinking he/she did the best doesnt necessarily mean he/she should get the job, end of the day it is just his/her thinking. BTW some people do not cry foul due to the pay disparities tilted in their favor, so??

It is wrong, but sadly a fact of life. There would be many males who you would have interacted with who would not deal with you fairly. :o(

I was turned down from a job I had applied to when I first landed in Doha coz I was a man!

Com on now! Just admit that something in your qualifications didn’t meet with what the employer needed for the position hence the smooth escort.

Take it like a real lady now ‘n move in.

why do some ladies carry teddy bears to their office this might be one reason :(

what do you expect from the environment, where the discrimination by race, country of origin, gender, age, and overall appearance is normal? In Canada it's forbidden to insert your picture into your CV. You don't indicate your gender, marital status, age or religion in your CV either. During the interview, the employer has no rights to ask you about your religious or political views, whether your are married or not, etc.

But as someone has mentioned, the real reason for your rejection can be different. He just came up with this crappy excuse even without realizing how miserable it is.

Dear frnd,

I dont think that what your thiking is right. bcoz if they dont want to hire women as network admin they even dont call you for an interview.

Think possitive and move on may almighty have choosen a good position for u rather than that. keep on trying.

Too much Girls in the gulf and especially in Qatar are trying to change their domain just because of the culture and society here so the point is not every domain or job we can practice it even though the mentioned situation

( Female I.T ) is not bad. But here the priority in this field for men.

@everyone: Appreciate your experiences :)

I am trying at other companies. Let the lucky company win me!! :)

Try in some other Companies. If you hear my stories similar to the one I posted you will understand what is the problem. It is not gender discrimination but something else.

What utter BS. The sooner this society wakes up and realises that women and men are EQUAL and should have EQUAL rights in every walk of life, the sooner it will progress out of the dark ages.

Good luck with the rest of your job hunt !!! :D

I do remember something happened to me in 1980. I went for an interview. I think it was in Nassir Bin Khalid and the post was Time Keeper. The guy who interviewed me was an Arab Expat in Managerial position and the test was to do time keep their employees for one hour. The employees will change their duties from one vehicle to another and I should punch in and out their cards each time they approach me. I did the job very well for one hour and after that the Manager called me to his room and told me that I am not strong enough to handle the employees. I was only 24 years. Actually he was planning to give that job to one of his Nationals and was looking for an excuse to avoid me (I got the info from some staff working inside).

Here also the issue will be the same. He might have got someone in his mind whom he is planning to offer the job.

Lol!! I have considered that as well which looks very bright. Howerver, I am legally bound :D

Online applications does not work, recruitment agencies are good for nothing, what other option do you all suggest??

this is really sad situation in this country. You might consider changing your field like become a programmer, or analyst. maybe you can find a job.

at shachi - if the interviewers condemned u for a matter of gender, dont even think of giving a second try there!

Gender will not & should not be any barrier! certain people are sitting on their brains & we really cannot help it!

down the line when u look back everything has happened for a reason & for its best!

wait a while & you will be blessed with something even better with out any racism! change takes time & most of the time will give you something better in return! keep trying & all the best!!

Maybe they are looking for someone who can carry big machines or other stuff. Why didn't you ask the interviewer "why didn't you say in the first place that you need man for the position". so your time and and his/her time won't be waste.
