This summer is your ideal time to find jobs in Qatar
Qatar’s expat population has seen a marked increase in the past few years. After settling down in the comfortable routine of life in Qatar, families under the spousal sponsorship look toward keeping themselves occupied through work or hobbies. Most of the families I know have been keeping busy by finding some opportunities or by finding ways to nurture their hobbies.
I know many wives of expats who work in Qatar seek out jobs after they arrive here, and the procedure is pretty easy because they are already under their husbands’ sponsorship. The hassle of the residence permit and visa has already been catered to, so the rest of the procedure is easy to follow. They just find the job vacancies they are interested in; they apply with their CV’s and follow up with any interaction that is made.
As seen in the recent years, a certain pattern also follows during summer. This is the season when companies perform cost-cutting and there are a number of lay-offs throughout the country in different companies. The exodus of a large number of expats creates a vacuum in another professional sphere; that of the educational sector and occupations where the spouses under sponsorship were working.
The educational sector sees the beginning of the new academic session in September after summer vacations end. Most of the vacancies are created even before the summer vacations start. If you are an expat who falls in the category of spouse under family sponsorship, and are looking for job opportunities, this is the perfect time to hone in on your skills and apply to all available vacancies in your field. Just make sure you have an updated CV and are prepared to answer questions at all potential interviews. When you get called for interview, do your homework and look up all the information you can about the institution that has called you.
Schools, colleges, educational institutions and companies create the job vacancies and post them swiftly online and in newspapers and classifieds journals. You can start your job search here by entering your preferred field and browsing through the classifieds in jobs postings. Apply to all fitting categories and wait for their reply.
If you don’t hear from them within a week, you can send a follow-up email to check on the job vacancy status. Usually companies get back to candidates with any reply, even if they are not selected. If that doesn’t happen, there is no need to follow up in most cases. Simply keep applying to all available vacancies. Ask around and get feedback from people who are working about how they landed their job and how long it took them after keeping applying. The answers will vary with each person, but you will get an idea of the time expectation. Getting a response may take from a week to a month or more.
Start your journey here and keep your hopes up. Persistency is the key to achieving any goal.
omarm88: Yes, it does matter a lot here in the Middle East. Being a westerner makes much of a difference in getting employed and in the terms being offered.
thank you. Does passport matter?. My wife has an African passport but recently got a UK passport. Her RP at the moment says African passport. Is it worth changing?
This is so nice .. Will start searching tonight
