Certificate of Ownership (NOC)

reconciling what I’m used to with what i can’t do

Middle east, Qatar still in many ways a conservative muslim state. During summer the temperature reaches to a staggering 50 degrees more than enough to fry eggs under the sun, in the Philippines 37 degrees is already a phenomenon but enough of the weather, there is nothing I can do about it.

Back home I can go outside wearing only my birthday suit as long as my genitals are covered, in here if you are caught not wearing shirt in public is punishable by repatriation. Nevermind the gentlemen’s gesture because you cannot hold the hand of a lady even while crossing the highways, its Haram. Liquor is only accessible to those who have the liquor license, and if you really want to have a sip of the precious liquid you have to pay it double to the licensee, good business eeh? and if caugth even just the cap of the battle KALLASH goodbye Qatar hello Philippines.

Probably anyone wasting time reading this, is getting the picture….Yes we are like prisoners here with a huge and unpartitioned cells. But that’s not it.. if you are under the sponsorship of your company and you are fed up with it, you cannot just make a resignation letter and find a new one, it depends on the prerogative of the employer if it will give you NOC, (No Objection Certificate) which is a requirement before any other company will hire you as if it is the “certificate of ownership” which can be pass on. Worst they’ll accept your resignation and you’ll pay for the plane ticket and be banned for two years from coming back.So its more of personal rather than professional.

The culture I respect and willing to abide by the law, now that I have seen the good side of Islam, my respect for Muslims is too much especially the locals whose respect for us Filipino is evident. The one thing that I can’t comprehend is the power the government has given to the companies to chained employees and keep them at their disposal.”Modern Slavery”….I hope not..

In the land of the free like Philippines, maybe at this time you can see me holding a big improvised board with the print so big that even the penguins up north can see..but I can’t I’m in Qatar, have to live with it and wait until my contract expires but how when I have a non expiring one..

abu, dms is right. mindanao is soooo big that not all of the provinces have problems with islamic extremists and insurgents. but for precaution only, try to avoid mindanao altogether. but if you're game, visit davao, cagayan de oro and nearby provinces. do not go to the southernmost areas.

Mindanao is composed of many provinces. It's the second largest islands in the Philippine Archipelago. There are certain areas in Mindanao where some bad elements are present, so these are the places in which Arecel said is not recommended to be with. But majority part of Mindanao is safe as Vivo is trying to convey to you!

I have seen pictures, it is beautiful and I will go there but for now I think things need to settle. I can only judge the place by what I see on the news and reports.

See many end up unhappy or worse by just listening to people talk about the salt and honey of a land and then going there and finding something far different than what was told to them by someone who grew up there.

In the Philippines if one will simply disappear into some shallow grave in some forest.... birds, wilds, earthworms will benefit from them...

in Qatar, if one will simply disappear into some shadows of the desert's storm... even a single bacteria, no one benefits from them...

now, to where will u choose, Qatar or Philippines?

with due respect to you...

your idea of generalization is somewhat baseless. Rule of the jungle? WTH you got such idea. Yes, reading in the newspapers, internet site, etc., will not give you the whole picture of what is really happening. And to generalize the issue is too irresponsible.

Anyway, we cannot blame you for that maybe you are born to believe that things can be known with such readings and postings even without actually experiencing the facts.

there seems to be the perception from non-Filipinos that the Philippines is like a place dominated by thugs and gang lords, where you could just silenced anyone if he/she is voicing against a certain person. of course, they based it on the few instances of killings. sure, there are at least 300 hundred activists being killed allegedly by the military. i wont deny that fact and to me that is tragic. BUT please don't forget that there are 90M Filipinos in our country, more than half are adults and youths and, believe me, almost all 45M had voiced out against government policies and officials including our president in one way or another. if you say that killing against those dissenting is prevalent, wouldn't you think that statistics will be higher than just 300?how come i don't know anyone personally who has been killed for that matter? if it is prevalent, you would think that every family had suffered. c'mon, my bestfriend is an activist but she is still alive. her friends are also activists and in fact are members in the underground movement and yes, they are still alive up to this day.

perhaps you will better understand the concept of voicing out in the phils. here let me explain further: those activists that had been killed are working with farmers'rights against landed employers or working with the urban poor. since the communists also penetrated these sectors of philippine society, the military almost always branded these activists as "communists" thereby seen as threat to national security. of course, some activists are not communists and they are caught in the situation. this is where the tragedy lies.

now, if you just attend to rallies against government policies or government official, you will not be killed i assure you. if you are a college student who voiced out against tuition fee increases, you will not be killed. if the president of the land is addressing your graduation rites and you suddenly heckled her in the middle of her speech (this happened 2 years ago), you will be reprimanded sure but not killed. in fact., this girl is still alive today and is not imprisoned.

the lone fact that we have the nerve to say anything against our government while still in the Philippines is a sure proof that we are not threatened in any way.

Dear Spikey....

Every Country has its own rules. Everything has positive and negative aspects too..Instead of blaming the negative aspects, why dont you enjoy the positive part of it..I just saw you comparing Qatar Life to a prison. Dude, you yourslef decided to be in prison and i guess its not someone who purposefully pushed you in here..About the NOC thingy..If you are fed up with your current job, you will need an NOC to go to another cell in the same prison(according to you). But why do you wanna do that...? What big difference can the other cell in the same prison make ....? Remember, you will never ever need an NOC to be a free bird and fly back to your home(Philippines). Have you ever seen any prison allowing prisoners to just walk away simply like that...? The most important thing is that you are earning your daily bread from the same PRISON and not from Philippines...I know, no country is gonna be like our home country. We will never ever get the same freedom that we get in our country, from some other countries...But please learn to see the positive part in everything, rather than criticizing....Anyways good luck too you.

there's no NOC. You can leave as you pleases. But yes, I would not advice you to go to Philippines. You won't contribute anything there (with your kind of mentality). At least here, we contribute "something" to make this nation continue to exist (with our humble contribution).

And Alexa, I beg to differ with your view that since many Filipinos are here, Qatar laws are better than in our country. Parallelism should also be compared to all expats living here now in Qatar, including yours!

True!, there's no such perfect place on earth

And based on the description about Qatar in this thread, I'd rather choose to live like a half prisoner having a Monarchy Ruled Government of this kind rather than to have a free land country with the kind of Administration we have currently, a freeland with full democracy to some extent that you can mock and BS the President of the State publicly. Yes! we called it land of the free, where anyone can have gun and shoot anybody in the street because they think that they can get throught it. I am not saying that Qatar is crime free, but compare to my dear homeland where shootings and killings is a normal scenario of the day,... aaaahhhh how sad to think. Another shame of our government is the current terrorist Abusayaf in Mindanao. I will never ever believe that our Government Arm Forces are incapable of cracking down the group, of course they are, but I dont know why they can't or perhaps they dont want? well, otherwise movie is over :)
