WATCH: Memories of Doha Zoo
Doha Zoo was once a cherished weekend getaway in Qatar. It was one of the best places for friends and families to experience some weekend fun.
The zoo featured a wide variety of rare animal species and was one of the only places where you could see an Arabian Oryx in captivity in Qatar.
At a time when there were limited options to explore with your family or a group of friends, Doha Zoo provided a fantastic option to the citizens and residents of Qatar to come together and appreciate the zoo's offerings.
Doha Zoo was closed down in early 2013 for major renovations and is currently being developed into a full-fledge 75-hectare Safari Park.
The renovated park seeks to offer visitors a chance to relish authentic places and memorable experiences with wildlife.
In addition to the safari experience, the newly-renovated zoo will also have retail, dining and theatre spaces.
Last September the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) announced that two rare and endangered guests: a night monkey (also known as owl monkey) and black-bearded marmoset Monkey gave birth in the zoo.
