You will save yourself much headache if buy your things here. You will be able to find most of the items you need in Qatar. You can ask your company to pay you some amount when you land here or even before you come. The company will also be making savings in this way. While I cannot comment on whether Qatar is more expensive than your country, shipping the items will eventually prove to be more costly. Possibly, yours is a rare case when someone is planning to bring kitchen and household items to Qatar from his home country.

The "fat cheques" come with free, furnished accommodation, school fees paid by the employer, choice of one's car etc. --- things many cannot dream of even in the west. Of course, many need to sacrifice some of their "freedoms" such as that of drinking openly, having sex freely, wearing see-through clothes at public places etc. Possibly, you are missing all this freedom and I suggest you return home before you get saturated to the point when you can take it no more and then go about looking for a camel in the desert.

Those "fat cheques" are the reason why rents are like how they are. All rent, no value. It is a dump.

Bajn: Looks like your bank account can take in no more. There are many who are dying to come here even from the west as they receive "fat cheques" which they could never dream of back home.

Shankly Boy, hold on for a few months before you ship things in. There is a high probability that you might not like the place.

Why would you want to do that? Qatar has almost everything available here and most of the items are imported. You may be able to find more varieties here than in the UK and it will save you the transportation costs.
