Tourist Visa vs Family Visit Visa

Hello,

My husband is working in Qatar, and I am from Singapore. I plan to visit him once a month. Can anyone advise me what the difference is between the tourist visa and the Family Visit Visa? Should I, or why should I get a Family Visit Visa when I can enter on my tourist Visa for free?

Thanks

acchabacca is correct since you have no intention to stay here long period, visa on arrival is good enough.

For Family residence permit and Family visit visa have to submit some documents and u need to for fees too. In addition, family visit visa does charge a fees for exit and return so it is pointless unless u want to stay here for a couple of months and family residence permit required a set of documents to be attested which is long process and time consuming.

You will not be able to get a family visit visa on arrival at the airport. A Family Visit Visa and Family Permanent Visa have some requirements and can be applied for only in the city.

For a family resident visa, there is no need for you to be present in the city. This holds true also for the visit visa. Your husband can apply for either of the visas without your presence here.

Trust this helps.

Thank you acchabaccha and freddykeat

Exactly as Singaporeans are entitled to the on arrival visa which is free - and I only plan on staying for a few days each time - it makes me wonder why I would want to go through the trouble of obtaining the documents and paying for a Family Visit Visa which I'll have to renew every 6 months too. But is there any other reason why I should get the family visit visa over the on arrival visa?

Also with regards to the family resident visa, will there be a minimum amount of time I need to live in Doha for the Visa to continue to be valid? Or can I just hold that and travel back and forth Singapore (I work in Singapore)

Thank you for your time

Let me add to what has already been posted so far on your query. First of all, just overlook the comment by Molten Metal as it does not have any meaning..

Secondly, Singapore is among those countries whose nationals can get a visa on arrival at the Doha airport. This visa is valid for 1 month and is not extendable. As such, you don't need to go for a "tourist visa" as for this you will need to go through the hassle of applying through a hotel in Qatar or possibly through a travel agent. I guess this "visa-on arrival" will suit you best. Alternatively, your husband can apply for a Family Visit Visa from here but for this there are certain regulations and documents required such as an attested Marriage Certificate, copy of your passport etc. This visa is valid for 6 months and during its validity, you are allowed to leave Qatar and return to Qatar as many times as you wish.

Hope this helps!

Hey OP,

For Singaporean, there is no need for Family Visit Visa if you have no intention to stay for more than 2 months or your husband want to sponsor you for Residence Permit.

If I am not wrong, here with the difference:

- Tourist Visa given one months and extendable to additional month.

- Family Visit Visa granted you stay in the country up to 6 months. Additional, if you want to apply for Residence Permit, you don't have to leave the country during the change over of visa.

- Family Residence Permit gives you the right to stay here long term with your husband provided your husband meet the requirement as a sponsor. E.g. Job roles stated in employment contact, salary requirement & housing.

Hope it helps to give you an overview.

I might not be 100% accurate but should 95% there :)
