Google Street View may come to Qatar soon
Google Street View could soon be available to residents and navigators in Qatar as a component of Google Maps, according to a report on Al Arab Newspaper.
Mr Anthony McLaughlin, Director of Google Street View for Europe and the Middle East, visited the Geographical Information Systems Center at the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (MMUP) to discuss cooperation in capturing images of Doha streets.
Google Street View is a technology featured in Google Maps and Google Earth that provides panoramic views from positions along many streets in the world.
It was launched in 2007 in several cities in the United States, and has since expanded to include cities and rural areas worldwide.
MMUP said that Mr Maclaglin discussed the possibility of signing an agreement to start filming the streets of the country using the "Street View" technique and provide it through the Internet applications and different mobile devices. [Hukoomi Qatar]
Privacy Concerns
The arrival of this technology will be in line with privacy laws in Qatar, but MMUP will have to ensure this move will not spark a public outrage from the conservatives.
Google Street View said it will blur houses for any user who makes a request, in addition to the automatic blurring of faces and licence plates.
LOL....
Just for one guy they cannot ignore an area pal;just blurring of faces and license plates will be fine.
No No No.. What about my privacy. I don't want google street view of Doha Jadeed :O)
