The Qatar national team, silver medallists at the IHF World Championships and a medal favourite at the Rio Games, suffered a setback to their ambitions after losing 25-26 to Denmark in a Group A preliminary game.

A last second goal by Mikkel Hansen helped the Danes beat Qatar on Saturday. The scores were tied 14-14 at halftime. The win helped Denmark qualify for the quarterfinals.

With the loss, Qatar put itself in a tight spot. They will have to win their final group game on Monday, against Argentina, to be able to make it to the knock-out stage.

Qatar’s Femi Seun Oginode crashed out of the men’s 100M by finishing fifth in his heats. Meanwhile, 400M runner Abdalelah Haroun made it to the semifinals.

The men’s skeet shooting team, which also had London Olympics bronze medallist Nasser Saleh Al Attiyah in it, could not do much in Rio and crashed out early.

Mayhem, thank you for pointing out the mistake. My mistake. Apologies. I'll be more careful in the future.

Harry99, no, all Scandinavians don't look the same. This was an honest mistake.

The match was with Denmark not Sweden. Please ensure that there is a second independent read before you post a story.

Both countries were mentioned in the text.

Hold on Hold on! Why wasn't Sweden disqualified ? The player in the picture seems to have bumpy bits where he shouldn't have :o(
