Why the swearing/cursing on Qatarliving?
I've noticed that when people are surprised, or shocked or whatever they WTF? Also in some threads, some responses are nasty.
Aren't their any other phrases or words that could be used? Foul language doesn't give a good impression about you.
And why are the moderators tolerating it?

and offensive in other threads than cursing, in my opinion. Discussing chaining a maid to her bed (even if meant to be a joke) or not giving a maid time off because she isn't allowed to have friends are much greater offenses from where I sit. :-(

That's true, because admittedly there are still a lot of people who do get offended by swear words. Their offense is not a conscious decision they make, it is a result of their childhood conditioning. It's an emotional reaction to preconceived notions that swear words = insult.
While the offense they feel is not a conscious decision they make, to remove the offense is a conscious decision, but will only be made if the person has the ability to make rational decisions over emotional ones.

CBD my point was that the words are not impolite to the majority of people who use them for reasons other than to insult. Those words are becoming commonly used and will most likely eventually be adopted into the language as regular words.

The most common usage, as I said before, is to provide emphasis. If you are offended by that sentence, than you are attributing a meaning to that word which was not intended. Although language seems like it has a static existence, it is actually always evolving and adapting to fit the language requirements of the society it exists in.

You are right that it is the intent which makes ppl offended not the words in particular. However, it is not good to use impolite words to describe something (examples are wtf, sh!t, and the like)..
Even if you were not swearing at some, to describe your reaction using a dirty word is not your best choice.

I joined Qatarliving because my cousin spoke highly of it. When she joins, a lot of people read the threads and comments and enjoy the conversations. BUT, do you know the age of the people reading all she things written? When you say nice words with strong meaning, its better then saying a curse word. I always said, if you can't say it in front of your parent's, don't say it at all.

I think peoples reactions to swear words are actually quite amusing. Most people have caught on to the fact that it is not the word itself that causes the offense, but the intent behind the word. Words are just inventions. Most people are also aware that the most common usage of these swear words nowadays is emphasis for the point they are making, NOT as insult.
Use your brain to consider the context the words are being used in, and then maybe you will stop being offended by innocuous statements.
Mods cannot cope with all threads and comments! Best is to refrain from using bad words. It does not strengthen the argument nor does it make ppl more intelligent though they thing so. Condemn it and refrain from doing it.
Nothing strange sugar. I have encountered direct remarks like "Stupid" or "Smoking Weeds" in previous threads. One thing for sure is to passively avoid such character like not to proactively participate/response to their discussion thread. You have your life, I have mine.

Point blank swear words are not just uncouth but they have become 'in your face' verbal confetti and lost their edge.

I didn't curse back and reminded him its a weak mans last resort to swear or insult.

There are far more offenive things on QL than abbreviations for cuss words.... I found that from another post sugar is very active in.

You are absolutely right. Loads of ppl who do not have serious jobs (to do at QL) either try to mock at or make fun of other people by using nasty or foul language in forum's thread. They dunno how much it hurts sentiments of QL members. It is always advisable that when someone does not know the subject or not interested, better to refrain themselves by not replying to particular thread. Using foul language in forum topics is not appreciable and intolerable. It simply shows how mean they are. Good Luck QLers.
