to take a stab

shoeaddict
By shoeaddict

so i went out with a couple of friends to dinner at Bateel last night.my question-is it proper to stab food from your friends plates without permission?
or to take food from the serving plate with bare hands while the rest are using serving utensils?
just to interrupt your ho-humm night...

but of course, I ask permission first.

Or we order different dishes and agreed to taste each other's meal/dishes...so no problem there, i guess.

BUT, if it bothers you that much (food stabbing), you could have just told the person that you're not comfortable with what he/she did. You could have settled it right there and then with person...THEN you could share your experience here on QL.

If the person (food stabber) is YOUR FRIEND, it's not nice posting your concern here instead of confronting her/the problem first hand.

My opinion...solely

First one is a definite No-No.

Second is dependent on sorroundings and culture.. Went to an Arabic soiree last week.. The "meat" was put on a big platter in the middle and expats were only given spoons. Most had to pick the meat with the hand and put on their plate.

Yes,I like eating with my paws, and also like to lick my paws too!

But thats possible only If I get a chance to wash my hands with soap (not sanitizer) before and after the meal.

I like to have my food like hungry savages! I like the barbarian style. Orgies and reclining in a cenacula to gorge myself with roast boar!

About reaching out for the food with hands then yes i'm very much guilty of that too, but again only among my close friends, i'm the last person to be eating any thing with a spoon and fork coz i'm a bloody Indian, food tastes better with my hands. If i'm out at a decent restaurant or a party then sure i know my manners. But i'll be the first one to grab FOOD with my claws when i'm hungry :P

of course alexa, no body just takes something outta someone's plate like a greedy glut. What i was referring to when close friends are out to eat, i might grab a french fry off my friend's plate without asking coz i know they wont mind it and they do the same with me. But as shoeaddict is saying no one actually is going to grab the food off my plate without me actually offering.

Well when you posted this topic i assume you meant taking a bit or piece of something to taste or if you werent going to finish something off your plate or as you mentioned taking from the serving place using hands. Taking the whole stake and leaving you the bones is just stupid if your just going to sit there and look at your friends face and come here and ask everyone's opinion.

you also wouldnt mind taking your dessert plate while youre still eating it,drink your coffee and leave you with just the grinds? anyways we are close right?

By shoeaddict• 5 May 2009 23:54

you wouldnt mind if i grab the whole steak from your plate because i assume that we are close...and give you the bones after?lol

Well Alexa No and No too, coz it depends on the culture of friends too. A group of say Indian close friends wouldn't mind such a thing.

Well it depends on how close these friends are. If they are pretty close then such a thing shouldn't matter.
