Is it easy to make friends in Qatar? What about Qataris? Do they not mix with foreigners? I don't know anyone in Qatar so when I get there I will be a lonely guy looking for friendship/companionship. God I hope I don't lose my mind.
Last year my wife lost not just the money but also the product because they had on purpose a wrong number of their database and could never reach her when the product supposedly arrived in Doha! later on we knew for friends that it actually does nothing for you, it is your mind my dear what really makes the miracle! In any case, in order to get it she should pay about USD 100 more for re-shipment! in their dreams! not just a pitty she truly wanted the disk for her parents but she mostly because wanted to contribute to a cause! They sold her the idea of this company as a benefactor of humankind... naive her I wish she had seen this before, please click on the link (and that was 2004!!)
The point is that nowadays they keep stealing shamelessly from people, maybe in Qatar most people can afford to lose money but in countries where life is harder, people have even committed suicide... Hopefully they could be stopped someday but as you know, these sort of companies survive or change names and go ahead destroying other people's life. BEWARE!
this has been an encouraging relief as I am a very outgoing and active young person also soon moving to doha. Hope to run into you guys around town, sounds like there are some similarly intrested people around and its good to hear.
As far as the ultra-negative few,
u guys just dont sound fun anyways!
Oh and Vegas,
Maybe i just dunno how lonely the desert really is but GEEZZ, lay off this buttercup chick! I have yet to meet an actarctive girl that falls for that greasy, over-the-top presistance. hahaha
i red your name veri often on this page. maybe you can help me i am looking for e swiss girl that is expat since dez. 2006 to doha. mebybe whit your help i can find it.
Hi, I've been reading the last posts on this thread and besides Vegas, everyone is really 'down' on being here. Well, life is what you make it :d There are lots of nice people here, you just have to reach out and be open to them. This group is a VERY good example. Now, if you are 'trolling' that's another story entirely...
Medo_qatar, making more friends does increase your chances of creating problems (by gossiping or misunderstandings). How you approach these friendships makes all the difference. Don't tell all. Read your friends well...get to know them to find out what kind of people they are.
Of all my friends here, only a very few are way beyond "fair weather friends". Most are fun to hang around and chat about travel, job stuff, economy, rent issues, or some light-weight problems. A few are keepers that you can lean on when life gets tough (and they won't walk away!).
Big mistake: don't confuse these different kinds of friends. A lot of people don't want to hear about your inner life or serious problems.
Boomerang effect: if you smile and act friendly to others --> they will act friendly to you!
If you guys do have a get together can you let me know. Been here 4 weeks, have a few friends from work but would like a few that i don't work with as well...anyone know of anywhere where i can play football (soccer)?
That is such a depressing, gloomy picture of Qatar. Makes me feel like I'm about to start a prison sentence in Qatar - no friends, no life, no women, nothing! Shall I jump off the cliff now?
Qatar is like a Bus ride. It's like you're travelling in a bus and soon as you get off, aint no more Qatar. You're ride's over, and you're so called friends (whom I like to call passengers) are over as well.
Wipe out all the negative thoughts you have, just come and have fun with us here in QL. For sure you'd be leaving your country for a greener pasture, so start it by enjoying the benefits, then soon you'll realize that you're not alone. Welcome To QATAR!!!
And we don't really know that many people, because most expatriate socialsing tends to revolve around alcohol and stuff. My dad's not into that, and I'm sixteen, so yeah. Plus I'd rather get high than pissed, but THAT'S aother story!
Anyway, so we're kinda stuck in terms of friend-making. Any suggestions?
Hi Single guy...I'll add in my views. Socialising in Doha can tend to be work driven. If you work for a large company you will have no shortage of events to attend, I'm sure. Also people from your home country are also a gd bet...you may meet some on here. Joining a club e.g. the rugby club is a good idea. Then there is the usual trawl of bars and the odd (very odd) club. If you want to become one of those leery barflys who scan the scene for dusky asian beauties (ahem), then again you will find no end of willing accomplices to join u in your quest :) I'm sure you'll be fine...
jus moved here recently....have figured out quite a bit, bout this country jus in a few months but nevertheless if n e 1 could help me out, r there n e places tht hold new year parties? coz nothing has come across, so if n e u guys knw n parties happenin for new years?
Well, I was in Doha from 1998 to 2003 and we had a lovely group of friends and so much of socializing that there was hardly any time for ourselves. Buttercupryle is perfectly right - you cannot get real friends by posting a thread - you have to build a relationship slowly ....
I am moving to qatar in febuary man .. so I am going to in the same boat. I am sure it'll be fun ... I think just being yourself is the best thing to do. keep being you and in the process you'll meet people like yourself...be easy
Im sure you will meet friends here in Doha. Just be cautious to other people that surounds you, because not all people that is nice to you are genuine. Especially, when they stepped out of their country all people change easily.
Qatar is Diffrent with regard to Friends,(I dont know why) even Iam living here for 3years now, but I have no true friend but although I have lot of Acquaintance, when I lived in Saudi Arabia I had many Friends and they are still in contact.

Thanks qatarisun that gives some hope. I'll be your friend. As for blahblah....10 years and no friends...that's shocking! How could you let that happen? Or did you make no effort at all?
Well, Ive been in Qatar for ten years now but couldn't make a friend yet, though desperate to have one. By the way, is there any such thing as friendship. I really don't believe. I think your laptop is your best friend these days.

I couldn't find the facilities in City Center mall one night and finally went up to a Qatari woman who almost burst out in giggles when i asked her where they were..she lead me there, laughing the entire way, but in a good way...I believe they want to talk to us, but don't feel comfortable making the first move..just like we do.
