CWG gets off to breathtaking start

Watched by millions across the globe, the 19th Commonwealth Games got off to a spectacular start here Sunday evening amid traditional Indian music and a burst of colour at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the heart of the city.

Britain's Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Indian President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh watched as 1,000 drummers stirred up a thumping beat.

After the national anthem was sung, the opening act, Rhythm of India, set the mood for the much awaited sports event with electrifying energy.

The 'shankh naad' (auspicious blowing of conch shells) and fireworks then lit the sky like dawn.

A helium aerostat crowned the stadium and suspended puppets danced to life when drummers dressed from across the country gathered in unison claiming that India has arrived.

Uk Larsen & Toubro is one of the Indian companies involved in these Road projects, they are as big as they come in construction field with presence across the world. I don't know about the rest of the contractors but they were the ones I was working with for National Highway Authority projects. There isn' necessarily a need for someone from outside to come and build these roads. See their global presence

Yes Jack.. how much of this so called Road will open on time..:)

Neighbouring Pakistan has a Motorway that was thanks to a Foriegn Contractor building it for them.

Maybe India should open up a bit more and invite more International firms to help India with its Infrastructure..

UK 35,000 Kms of road will be built in next 7 yrs... in India

...at the rate of 5,000kms per year!!!

Konkan Railway .... mammoth by any means... the project had 93 tunnels along a length of 82 km and involved tunneling through soft soil. The total project covered 760 km and had over 150 bridges. That a public sector project could be completed without significant cost and time overruns was considered an achievement by many.

E. Sreedharan was made the managing director of Delhi Metro and by mid-2005, all the scheduled sections were completed by their target date or before and within their respective budgets. Sreedharan was given the sobriquet of Metro Man by the media. In 2005, he was awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur (Knight of the Legion of Honour) by the government of France.

Welcome to the CV of E Sreedharan:

Cryspy don't worry, you can get them anytime you visit Delhi, not just during the games. Go to GB road, No. 64 and 56 for the best quality , 64 is a bit over crowded as it is very popular so go to 56.

Don't keep excess money and don't wear any jewelery when you go there ;)

By Rizks• 4 Oct 2010 11:59

The CWG is like a guy who cheats for 6 years on his fiancee, lies to her and treats her badly but then, when they get married, everyone says 'forget that he cheated on her, wasn't the wedding beautiful!'

Hypocrites.
