PLEASE HELP ME (Offer from QF)

Hi everybody,

In two days from now I'll be receiving an offer from Qatar Foundation for a position with grade 16 and have several questions in mind for which I would like to receive your feedback.

First of all, do you know what is the salary range in QF for a position with grade 16? I know they will provide me house, annual leave tickets, education for mi children, car allowance + other stuff. But, knowing this would allow me to know if they are underestimating me or not :)...

Second, can I negotiate my salary in Qatar? Especially, if I already received an offer from a big company with a very good international reputation. Thus, do you think I can negotiate my salary?

Third, I would like to know how good QF is as employer. Is it a serious company? how does QF treat its employees?

Fourth, I heard to say that some companies take even the passport of their employees. Is it this normal? Does QF do that?

Fifth, do you think that working for QF is good for CV, considering that I would like to move back to Europe after some years?

Sixth, I have a family (wife + 2 children) and am really afraid of making a mistake in moving to Doha because I do not know how life is over there. Is Doha family friendly? How good schools are (especially french ones)? Are there activities for Kids in Doha?

I know that I am asking you many questions, but really, I am feeling alone in the world to take this hard decision of moving or not to Qatar. It would be then GREAT if you can help me with your comments.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL OF YOU!

Hi AALFadhala,

I like your comments, Could you tell me is there any place where i can find job grade level? I am going through Interview process with one of the local company as IT-Director position, based on our conversation following are paid by company

- House (compound Villa with 3-4 bedroom)

- School fees for my child ( pay directly to school)

- Travel back to home 1 year

- 40+ days vacation

- Car allowence

- Mobile Allowence

- travel expense

At this point, we haven't discuss about salary so, how much should i ask for? I live in Western country so mostly looking something that life style!!

Also, how safe will be in Doha for my wife since I have 6 year old and 1 year old child, where my wife will be home and taking care of kids?

I read on website that driving is very dangerous in doha.

Is it safe to go out in city during evening time with family for dinner or mall?

Here in State, my wife go out to shopping while I am at work, will be OK for her to do same in Doha while I am at work or is she need to take extra care while she will be going out with my 1yrs old?

Basically, We are in our 30 (age) and have two children living in USA.

Any think that you can advice me greatly apreciated.

Thanks in advance for your guidance.

Than that's amazing I guess.

The rent prices of a basic villa is between 20k-25k.

School fees of private schools are high too, looking at around 20k-40k per year.

If that's all paid, then I would think you would not need to worry about anything. Petrol prices here is extremely cheap, looking at 1 riyal per litter comparing to the western countries, its extremely low.

I'm living in the UK, and supermarkets are really expensive in the UK comparing to Doha.

You will always be welcomed.

All the luck.

Kind Regards,

Hi AAlFadhala,

Yes, QF is paying 100% for a villa and school fees for my two kids (+ other benefits). So, according to what you say, if the offer for basic salary is around 25k is ok. Good to know.

OK, thanks a lot and now I am just waiting for the official offer to come to Doha soon :D

Cheers!

Jorge

Its a bit tricky to say if the grade position is good or not. I would suggest to connect foreigner employees if you are able to to ask them. Since I really don't know how the system works for a foreigner employee.

Regarding the salary, you should compare what will you be paid if you work back in home and the amount you will be paid in Qatar. If there is a huge gap (higher amount), then I guess its a great offer.

Is Qatar Foundation renting you the house or paying you an allowance?

If they are paying for a house as the full rent, than 25K basic salary is great. However, as I told you compare between home and here and see the differences.

Kind Regards,

Abdulla

First of all, thanks a lot for your feedback.

AAlFadhala, I have a Ph.D. with 4 years experience (after Ph.D). So, is it a good grade position for me?

I have a feeling that the offer is gonna be around 25k basic salary + benefits (housing, schooling, car, petrol, etc...). Do you think this offer is reasonable?

Thanks again!

Can you please clarify you education, experience etc. in order to know if grade 16 is a good position for you. Secondly, yes education, housing, and other costs will be covered. I’m not 100% sure, however, I know that Grade 16 employees in Qatar Foundation receive a business or first class tickets each year. I’m not really sure if you would be able to negotiate your salary since it’s a job offer, you could accept it or reject it. Qatar Foundation is one of the most leading organizations and successful organisations in Qatar. Furthermore, it’s really competitive to get a job in Qatar Foundation since many applicants apply for this organization. I don’t see any problem in a company requested the passports of its employee, I guess this is normal. Definitely, Qatar foundation would help your CV to stand out in the future. You could go online and read about Qatar Foundation and see its reputation. I guess working aboard would give you a great advantage in the future too. According to knowledge, I know one French school here in Qatar located in the heart of the city Doha, its about 20-30 minutes away from Qatar Foundation. I could a sure you that you will have a great time here in Qatar, as everyone would agree with me that it’s a Qatar is a really family friendly county.

If you have any further questions, feel free to do so.

Kind Regards,

1- Salary at QF is on a very strict scale, you cannot really negociate but you have to be careful that you have been put at the right level (i.e. that your diplomas/experience/job description, match the grade).

3- Yes QF is one of the best places to work for in Qatar, for sure.

4- No, although some companies do that QF does not. Still you will need an exit permit to leave the country.

5- Depends on the position, very hard to say since QF is a pretty "young" structure.

6-Depends on a lot of paremeters, are you a muslim, does is your wife willing to work, how old are the kids... And there are two french schools in doha, and they are good.
