Investment Banking - $$$ thoughts?!
Hi,
Does anyone here have any intimate knowledge of the investment banking / corporate finance enviroment here? What are its prospects? Who to work for? Qaulity of experience on an international level?
I've been offered a job with within an investment banking division here. I'm just trying to weigh up what it's worth. How much should they be paying me for approx 2 years experience in the field with a top tier Australian firm?
They are offering approx 25,000 QAR a month - as a all inclusive package (i.e. not broken down into sep allowances etc.). Bonus's are paid and can vary between 0 - 300 percent. I'm single and am keen to save a bit of money.
Are there any investment bankers here?! Would be keen for some insight?
i need to let them know very very soon..
1. The market in qatar is not huge but KPMG has this tendency to work beyond Qatar/Bhrn. and that's the reason they are not short of work.
2. Moving to Dubai, well it obviously becomes easy once you are so close to it...have this friend in Deloitte who moved from Doha to Dubai in just 3 months time after joining the firm
3. Salary--- well it depends on the kind of experience you have. ..be careful about the accomodation part... if you could tell me abt your experience and hw much r they offering u...I might be able to give u some more insights
Hey Guys,
I need some help.I am planning to join a KPMG's Corporate Finance division here in Qatar.
Need some inputs from some one probably currently working in the Industry here, so just wanted your thoughts on the following:
1) How big/small is the Corporate Finance market in Qatar
2) What do you think are the prospects here for growth, especially after the huge expectations around QFC?
3) How much pay should I expect at an Associate Level in a Big 4 (its a big 4 not an Investment Bank)
4) Do you think it is possible from here to switch to Dubai in case things dont work out well in terms of exposure and money...as in is it easy to find a job in Dubai / Bahrain based on the experience in Doha
5) any clues about howz KPMG's reputation in the Corporate Finance in Qatar..any ideas about their pipe - line etc. also is there a way I can get Qatar Investment banking league table??
Thanks a ton!!!
Hi,
Anyone with more insights on the subject?

Think2
richard i have sent a pm..
Appreciate the replys so far!!
A lot of people within the industry in Australia claim that the quality of experience in that region can be easily discounted when you go back home?? Primarily for two reasons:
1. there is no incentive to optimise capital efficiency as capital is not a limitation in the region - hence transactions arnt ALWAYS structured in the best possible way..
2. clientele that you may be dealing with is not as sophisticated...hence like you said Shuaibkazi ..you can get a way with some major screw ups.
Thoughts? based on these, is it still worth it coming out to the region..
btw, if thoughts want to be shared in a private forum, please feel free to PM me!
Why keep all the good courses to yourself! Please do share by telling us the best way to learn about sukuk markets you guys?

Nothing further to add.

The market is still in its infancy
Qatari Market also doesnt believe in fundamentals u need a strong background in technicals to survive here. The market also lacks professionalism
So, many screwups survive in the total chaos they create
Anyway i would have suggested you to come in to qatar only if u were at the end of ur career. I guess Richard would back me up on that
for reasons i think she understands

I would love to find out more about Islamic finance! Do they have any places or courses one can take in Qatar focusing on Sharia investments?

I think he means Corporate Finance and Private Equity. The market is good provided you work for a bank that is politically well connected. Also there will be more IPOs and debt issues here and I believe, a burgeoning Sukuk market in the future.
Investment banking is growing here. QNB are forming QNB Capital at the QFC and The First Investor and Al Rayyan are developing Sharia investment banking. Directors will earn around $250,000 plus bonus and living allowances.

the reality is that it is not so easy to do this job here, as people, especially locals, are used to good and quick return from the DSM. anything that is long-term investment is not so easy to sell in here. Especially if u r talking about 5 years and more. not even when it's capital guaranteed product.
sure, u can do it, with the right approach and database, but it's not so easy.
If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.
but I would not dare post all my thoughts on this website. You can PM me if you want .
