There are many courses for becoming a teacher, my wife is currently undergoing Montessori training so that she can become qualified to teach children in nursery classes. She also wants to improve her English so is also taking english courses from a reputable institution.

Good luck Sora.

It's always good to strive to improve your position.

But do heed what other posters have written, if you're working in academia/teaching, then good written English (and that includes punctuation) is a must.

You're not just posting on Qatar Living, you're effectively advertising your abilities.

All the best.

why don't you just answer her question rather than emphasizing her "bad english"? i guess she masters the subject she teaches and that's what is important, especially if she's a native arabic speaker.

Hi Sora,

I would like to say, it is good if you are looking at taking a course to gain knowledge and better yourself.

If you are working at an English Medium school teaching children in English I would suggest taking a serious English course as from your post your written English is very poor.

I would not go asking for a salary raise until you are up to scratch yourself. It is not fair on your students to have to suffer due to your lack of knowledge.

Neither is it appropriate for the school you are working for to employ you cheaply and expect you to learn on the job using money as an incentive.

The only ones losing out are the poor students who are screwed by both the school and the teacher.

Please take this post in the spirit it is intended because it is meant as constructive criticism.

I guess I am just really tired of unqualified people teaching. I don't think its too much to ask a university lecturer to know that there is in fact a difference between the words COMMITTEE and COMMUNITY! Rant over.

Best of luck with whatever you decide to do, please don't shortchange your students.

If you are working in a Qatari independent school-you should check out the PEPP programme at Qatar uni-training is in line with the Natioanl Standards for teaching and professional standards. You do need a certain level of English though. British council offer English lessons relevant if you are teaching Maths, English and/or Science.

I would recommend you select a good course and take it anyway..at least you will have more skills..

It would be better to involve your management before taking the course and checking for the options they may give you.

I would not recommend an online course unless it is free of charge :D

You have the best job in the entire world except marking homeworks!

Good luck!

Ask your employer their opinion...no one else's would matter.

And if you work in an English speaking school, please say it's an english based course
