I am new to this forum and I wonder if anyone can share some thaughts with me. Actually, I have been offeresd a job in Qatar as a senior project manager with a reputable Engineering architectural company, and I wanted to know if this seems a good offer.
- QR 33000 a month base salary
- QR12000 a month housing allowance
- QR 2500 a month car allowance
- 4 round trip ticket to USA after one year of employment
- 100% Health insurance
- 100% Shool tuitions for my two kids
- One month paid vacation after one year of employment

I am an american citizan and I wonder if I should ask the employer to pay what is called western inducement allowance or Currency protection allowance. Please advise

With the accomodation covered, that is a good package.   Rents here go up all the time so with your employer finding and paying for the accomodation, you won't have to worry about constant increases in rent that will eat into your savings.

Novita is spot on with the recommendation about the schools.  Coming from the USA I would assume you are interested in the American School of Doha and it is tough to get in, especially if you have elementary aged kids.  Registering now for the next school year is the best bet but even then there is no guarentee.  My company has lost some good candidates because school openings were not available.

dollar and QR have a fixed exchange rate there should be no need for any currency adjustment.

doric..this is a great offer...esp school fees and accomdation covered as these are huge expenses here...as novi said sort out schools as the good schools have huge waiting lists and you dont want your kids in Q without schools....its good that you have the opprtunity to come and see the country for yourself to get a feel of it..good luck..

Thanks novita.

I have talked to them about the housing allowance and they said that instead of the allowance they will provide me a suitable accomodation. They also agreed with me  that I should come to Doha first to meet them and check out the country. What you think so far. Thanks.

Some company provided this allowance BUT its normally calculated based on currency exchange on your appointment date. Those people that came here earlier (when dollar are stronger) are luckier. Confirmed this with your employer.

your offer seems good ... Do your sum carefully includin your USA tax. Maybe ask a bit more housing allowance. To stay in an independent villa you will need at least 15.000 QR, with 12.000 QR housing allowance you will have to chipped in a bit more from your own pocket.

If you do decided to come here ... i advice you should come for a 'look-see' trip. Make sure to sort your kids schooling before you uprooting them from presents school. Most school nowadays dont entertein e-mail / telephone conversation. If you come and show your face to them in person, they will notice that you are seriously interested with the school. On top of that ... popular school are always waiting list. So the sooner you sort the school out the better.

Good luck.
