Hi all,

I just recieved an offer from Qatar University for a non academic.

I'm actually working in France for an IT company and the University offer me Head of Department position.

Please let me know your advice regarding the detail of this offer:

- Contract duration: Renewable 1 year

- Grade: 3

- Total Monthly package 28.600QR including: 16000 basic salary/housing: 2500/ transport: 1500/ Management allowance 2000/ work type allowance 5600/ telephone 1000

- 1 ticket in economic class for each member of my famility and ones a year

- Vacation: 45 days

- End of service 1 month salary for 1 worked year

- Healthcare

Please let me know your feelings about that - know that i'found that the housing allowance is insufficient to cover a decent house or flat renting in Doha.

Thank you a lot!!!

Professor - How much time did you have for renegotiating an offer, once a job offer was made? Thanks

I just sent an email to HR at QU with the following:

Salary 28.600 (same level) + airplane ticket for famility + health Care

And asked them to arrange the housing (compound) and to take care of the schoolarship of my child.

Do you think that it's fair enought? ...at then end it's not so far from their initial offer...

You Should Bargain with them about Package & Contract

And don't forget the school for your son...they are full also, and very expensive, you don't find a easy entrance...

Normaly the goverment contract is 1 year renewable...its normal, you can work 4,5,6 years renewing it, in my point of view, the housing allowance is short, try to ask them a house or an apartment paid by them...a lot of companies do that...and don't forget, that renting a house/apartment now is very dificult...in the nice areas, they are almost full, and the prices are high...good luck

I would say with QU don't bother about contract issue. still ask them for a 3 year renewable if it satisfies you. usually a 2 month notice period for resignation is applicable once you are permanent. there is a possibility of increase/ revision of basic salary. You should compulsorily ask for 30000+Furnished 2BHK+educational allowance for atleast 2 children even if u have only one

OK well noted.

But usually in Qatar the contract are for 1 or 3 years?

i Have another question but regarding the contract duration.

In France i have what is called a CDI contract wich is a contract with no end duration.

And QU offered me only one year contract ....can i negociate at least a 3 year contract renewable???

So it's better to ask them to arrange the housing instead of getting an allowance?

If it ok for them do you think that 26100QR is a good packaged salary? to live decently there?

Hi..living in France and coming to Qatar will not be an easy choice and more over you need to really bargain on the housing as well as the kids education as both are really expensive..So please start negotiating for housing or tell them to deduct the 2500 and arrange a furnished 2BHK.

Thank you for your reply.

I have 1 child and my wife.

And regarding the allowance i agree - so i'll ask to have a minimum of 10 or 13000QR.

Maybe a full package of 35000QR can be more intersting? instead of the offred 28.600QR

Thank you for your answer.

Actually i'm planning to move there with my wife and one children so i'wont be able to find a suitable renting with only 2500QR.

So it's a point to renogociate with QU.

Regarding the salary is it ok to have a nice living standard in Doha?

Recently I was looking for a rented house. So based on that you atleast need a 6000QR for a decent 2 bedroom unit. If you need gym, swimming pool etc you atleast need 8500QR for a big 2 bed room unit. Again it also depends on your location, the same 2 bedroom unit can cost you about 12 to 18000if you are looking on the porsch areas of Qatar. But for 2500 you can get a studio only and most llikely that will be a partitioned unit of a villa. Cheers.
