Workers with covered faces 'spark suspicion'
Gulf Times, June 10th
"The increasing presence of expatriate labourers with protective cloth on their faces in many areas of Doha especially at night is a source of worry and suspicion for many residents, says a report published in a local Arabic daily.
Workers in construction sites usually cover their faces with a cloth to protect themselves from dust. It is a normal practice during the day time but their appearance in the late hours of the evening with covered faces is unwarranted and leads to suspicion, says the report quoting a Qatari lady who preferred to be anonymous."
Perhaps the anonymous Qatari lady now has a deeper understanding of why westerners object to the wearing of the Muslim veil in the west.
I'm not paranoid, I was just pointing out that western culture regards a covered face with suspicion and it's a bit ironic when a muslim woman is unhappy because someone else has his face covered.
A construction worker who covers his face when not working is showing bad manners and giving offence. I don't appear in public in Doha with bare shoulders because this would make me equally guilty, and when I'm at home in the UK I would find someone with a covered face to be bad mannered. We all need to fit in with local customs.
I was born in this country 17 years ago, im also irish. Ever since i can remember- workers digging holes in the streets or whatever always had cloths covering their face. even workers working at night, its just because their company cant be assed to buy masks.
why r u so paranoid, in addition why is the 'anonymous qatari lady' surprised? its not like workers have done this recently, they've been doing it for years.
