U know what... lets just forget about this thing... it's never gonna end. Lets just agree to disagree... I understand there are people who are different in this world and for me I respect everyone that is worth respecting. I respect u too for being married at a small age... it has its own advantages. But at the end of the day we both know that no one is gonna change their opinion, so might aswell accept the differences and move on.

If i say most of the people are not like that wouldn't i be generalizing ???

Oh and talking about how stupid they are... i wont say anything the results are in iraq, the results were on 9/11... U know how many muslims were attacked by americans after 9/11... Every muslim was in fear after 9/11... wonder what the reason would be???

thexonic,How is when you say "most of the people" not generalizing? Unless you meant most of the people are NOT like that?? And saying that I am not listening to you  because I am pointing out the flaws in your argument?I never said the west was perfect, but neither is the east. What I want is for you to stop judging Americans based on fictional characters in movies and tv and claiming that all americans are stupid because of what you have seen in these tv shows and movies.  tra la la

Excuse me Theexonic, but I just got out of my teens. No one I knew got booed because they didnt loose their virginity on prom night.  What is wrong with leaving home after high school graduation and being mature enough tosupport yourself??

America is made up of people from all over the world of every religion, and you cannot generalize based on what you saw on TV!

Just because you see it in movies or on tv does not mean thats how life is. Get real teenagers are not like the movie American Pie.

you have been watching too much tv thexonic. Its true that Americans do not share the same value as Arabs, Indians, and Muslims. But that doesn't mean they don't know how to love.

For instance, how many eastern men do you know who are willing to marry a women and take care of her children as if they are his own? Or eastern countries who protect a womens rights?

I guarantee that if more women had rights in eastern countries alot of you guys would have went bye bye aloooooooooooong time ago!

No the upcoming generation is not stupid. They are influenced by Television way too much, thats all i'm saying. I haven't been to USA but i've been to an american school. I know how it is over there, people are not stupid, they are just confused. Compare the times when u were a teenager and compare the teeens now a days. U will see the difference yourself. I don't need to generalise it. Specially when they have the rule of "go to your room" or "you are grounded" how does that help anyway. I have american friends and most of them left their houses and lived on their own since they were teenagers, some dont even follow their own relegion. Isn't it true that people boo those who dont loose their virginity on the prom night... thats what i've seen and heard. I'm judging based upon what i've seen and what i've heard, practically and on tv.

I think attitudes will change in the UK very soon. Most 2nd generations are not like their parents and have access to education (thank you british ;)

And even back in pakistan they don't do these things anymore. You'll find people from pakistan more modern and sort of with it then pakistanis who came to work in the UK 30 years ago.

so things are changing!

Yes I do think family influence has alot to do with things. Its mainly a problem with the guys mom in that she can be jealous of the wife at times! So really depends on family dynamics. Its not always the case and less so these days, though still existant.

Well I know there are cases in the news in UK about forced marriages amongst certain cultures.

But getting back to the topic of this thread and 'why do men dominate' ... I can't really imagine the men involved in these marriages can really like the idea either.  Surely not ...

Is it the parents, who don't want to lose face amongst their piers?  Bit like that film 'East is East'?

Jauntie.. trying being friends with some of these girls. And the bengali community is pretty backwards in this regards too .

One of my best friends went for holiday in pakistan without her parents (to a village in mirpur) And while there was married and trapped in the house for a year. Raped and got pregnant with her first child. Then had to sign for the guy to come back to England! Very sad and thankfully he committed a crime and ran to saudi to avoid prosecution! (she is now happily married to an energentic  man 7 years younger then her. :)

I met another women who was hindu from India and she married a guy that was like 60 years old and she was 15. In the uk, they had no heating in the house. She was forced to sleep on the floor and the health visitor actually went out and bought her neccessities when he passed away only 6 years and 5 children later.

p.s. Gujarat is an area of India.. the muslim men are known for loyalty to their wives! And are not known to hit their women (unlike other groups of indians)

On a different tack, I've just started reading a book called 'Brick Lane' (I think PH would know where Brick Lane is in London).  It's about an 18 year old Bangladeshi who has an arranged marriage to a 40 year old nice man.  It's set in 1968.  I'm only on Chapter 2, but I'm already fascinated as to the outcome of this girl's life.

The writer was born in Bangladesh and brought up in England.  Monica Ali.

So far the story has me gripped.  The book was written about 5 years ago, but she was nominated for loads of prizes at the time.

Well there might be true love, im sure. But the media has blinded alot of people over there. Just like back in india or pakistan they are crazy about television and to be honest they do what they see on tv and they are adapting the life style. They think what's on tv is right. Alot of people have lost their opinions. But then there are alot of other people who believe in doing the right hting, or they realise sometime in their life that what they are doing is wrong.

marriage takes alot of sacrifice from both sides. The unhappiest married people I have ever met are those where the partners have no choice but to stay in the marriage. Like in forced arranged marriages.

Anyway.. I love a strong man.. but not forceful. He has to be pretty clever and confident to persuade me with his love! :).

Right, every relation is unique, but then again, there is a slight difference in the word dominance to its usage, here in this thread, this person, was asking about sheer outstraight dominance, and that was what we are addressing to (Correct me if I'm wrong Thexonic)...

Again having said that, every relation is a masterpiece creation on its own by the individual participating stars in that...so dominance in lovely relations, is upto the inividual performers, but overall, dominance is something that Isnt required in a relation...or rather Blind Dominance...how does that sound Corne..

4 years ago i was with this palestinian girl, we were really happy togather. U know what kept my relation going on, it was the trust. She had blind trust on me and so did i. I believe in this thing about " treat someone teh way u want to be treated". If i wanted to cheat on her, i could have doen it any time of the day, but what would i have gained... nothing but shame. One day a girl did come up to me and asked me if i wanted to go to club with her at that time, i told her no. Cuz I would be hurt if my girl would do such thing with me, if someone asked her out and she went. I know its hard to resist a girl, but not for me.

OMG, boys awake up! Ur not in fantasy land! Geez I thought men were supposed to be the realistic ones not the romantic ones!

I agree with all that ur saying, but that's not how reality works alot of the times. Sometimes husbands loves their wives to death but still dominate. Dominance doesn't always mess everything up, each relationship is unique. Some people like to dominate, others like to be dominated, and u have a match! So u can't generalize. Rightly said, I mean I have said it earlier, saying it again,

Where there is LOVE there shouldnt be a place for Dominance, can screw up the whole system, Dominance comes with EGO, and trust me when I say that, there shouldnt be a thing called Ego in a relation, I mean, relations live on understandings and compromises, its either from the guy or from the lady, and sometimes it has to or rather, most of the times, it has to be from both the ends, thats how relations continue to be living cos once that is gone then there is no love and thats about it when things start falling apart...

And very rarely people make a valiant and an honest effort (again leaving Ego) out of the situation and trying to resolve the matter , people dont do that, and this time its a Final Bye Bye to the relation...

O well, when will the people understand, Love, TRUST, SINCERITY, COMPROMISE, HUMOUR, NOT TAKING THE PARTNER FOR GRANTED AND NOT LETTING THEM HAVE THEIR 2 CENTS IN DECISION MAKING AND AGAIN A LOT OF LOVE KEEPS THE RELATION GOING STRONG....

Come on girls, I know you are reading this....PMs are welcome..LOL...I just love to play it all apart...

 Well said thexonic.

To dominate and be dominated should be done willingly just for fun or some nice feelings of being owned by the person you love. But the truth is, men and women should treat eachother with fairness and trust. Don't they say "treat people they way you like to be treated?" What you give is what you get, and successful relationships normally are based on giving spaces to breath (to a limit). We are humans and sometimes we just like to spare ourselves from our life for a change. Give trust and space, if your partner abuse it, then he or she were never meant to be.

Dominate in your mind not in actions.

---> I disagree. This is how marriage is SUPPOSED to work; however, in reality it can be very different. U have to treat her with fairness and she has to do the same for u, this is how a married life works. If u look at americans, most of them are dumb and they do the most stupid thing in this world about having relationship and then breaking up over and over... soo much that it becomes a habit and they become more sesnestive by the day... its just ridiculous. SOo much that some day if the guy's wife asks him to get something from the store they would sit and cry about it and then start drinking lol. Thats not the way to live. First of all, u made a wrong assumption that men DO infact dominate women. That is not the case in many relationships. However, in the cases that men are dominating is can be due to several reasons:

1- He has a dominating nature (women can be that way too): Many people have a bossy nature.

2- Superiority/inferiority complex: he feels insecure and the need to crush others in order to make himself feel better.

3- He was brought up in an environment in which it was normal was for the man to be dominating and each gender had specific roles.

Ofcourse a man should never dominate in all cases, nor should a woman. There should be balance and cooperation between the two.

Being the best in the world should be titled based on what you did in your life, what you did to your family, what you did to your country, and sure what you did to God. Armani and Channel won't make us good people, it will only well dress us and hide what we are scared that people might know.

I myself wear brands, just to feel good and satisfy myself, not to impress. I use my mind and knowledge to impress only.

The story is not limited to armani and D&G.. its beyond that. Now u see I would buy my wife all that stuff, but the girls i was talking about are like those books that can be judged by their cover. I mean I myself wear stuff like Sean Jean and Acadamics, but that wont change the peson that i am inside, I wont start thinking that i'm the best one in the world. But those girls they do.

THExonic, LOL I know inno aghlab el Lebanese girls hon rekdeen wara el masari, so sad. But do not judge a nation for some fugitives. Everyone on earth has his own beauty somewhere deep inside, you have to dig and seach. Never judge based on one mistake or wrong principle. People are changable when they find what they are looking for. No one is perfect so do not expect that in a million years. The best thing to do is to find yourself a better half who is very near to what you want, the rest you can tolerate out of love.

Which is something i hate the most. Now hoplessely is a smart girl and she's not one of them I agree. All i'm saying is that these kind of girls are alot in qatar.

Now come on girl, where in my words did ya find that I would want to domincate the ladies, I was just playing a bit of the lighter side that we guys get to live like that only out of the house (ofcourse when the wife's not around) and certainly no dominance in the house...Now do ya get it...

So having said that, where is my cup of coffee that I get for being so nice...;)

The so called "men dominate women" is simply "men's illusion" they like to do it and think they are. But if you give it a great thought, eventually, women are dominating men smoothly. LOL

ladies why is it that nowadays you gals are behind the men, leave us alone a little, come on its only outside that we get to think we are the bosses, i mean everyone know whats the inside story of the house, so take it easy, and let it go like that...come on give us a little freedom...atleast outside the house...:P...LOL...

Speaking of dominance...well, whats stronger love or dominance (EGO), I would say Love, so why should one find a place for dominance in a relationship...go along hand in hand people, its much easier, no need to look back or too front, jus look to the side and u have ur partner there right next to you...it always is the best way to go...

Now all you lovely ladies, you can always start falling for a man with this mentality cant ya...LOL( my PMs service is activated for y'll)....;)

There are two places where a woman should dominate a man; one is the bedroom, the other, is the bathroom

Elsewhere? Both shall be equal and in the same level

No one can dominate a person, unless they give them a chance to do so. Our culture permits men to dominate... Male domination is prominent in places where women are behind men in all aspects like age, financial stability, physical strength etc..  Most important how they are brought up in their family,  If a man see his father dominating his mother and vice versa...they tend to follow the same when they grow up....

Look it all begain with Adam...he was created first..and then came Eve...so when Eve came she was scared of all the wild animals and kitty cats that were roaming around, so she turns to Adam and says "oh ur so brave" and then Adam takes Eve showing her around the garden of Eden..and since then women have always been that way. :) end of discussion.

Just a set up that the men folk created and the women followed. some women of the past encouraged it too. Sadly, most women are looking for comfort and security. something which is destroying them at a slow pace.

because they are given permission to do so.......

women feel guilty putting themselves first sometimes they think they are being selfish, pushy and bossy.

men can be perceived as a sucessful, dynamic person after a better career etc.

They are behaviour labels we put on genders.

Even when both parties earn the same etc it is still the women in many cases who is more supportive of the man rather than vice-versa.

She is ready to listen to his problems and doesn't want to bother him with hers.

its not always that men are dominating women. women too dominate men in many cases. however, man tends to see himself as the superior breed and believes that woman should succumb to his wish and command. this is when the dominance happens. however, all men are not like that. i know men who treat women like equals.

i believe that men and women are not equals. there are some fields where a man cannot be better than a woman and vice versa. the best part is to accept this and live a happy balance life.

not at all. i actually know lots of men who like women to be in charge. they enjoy it-less responsibilities!

besides, more and more of the "new generation" have developed their feminine side...they even have a name for that, but i actually forgot it.

that allows them to keep their ego and self-esteem on a healthy level, so they don't have to have that macho behavior and they don't feel threatened by women at any point or family of carrer level.

surely, we all know the ones who have it the other way-but i guess they just have issues with themselves, been raised in the sort of families and societies where it is a normal thing. you can fight it, but mostly won't win with it, coz it's something planted inside.

If you're looking for a problem, you're probably gonna find one.

Depending of the relation some womans just like to follow what the man says. and others want to make the rules...

So depend on the type of relation and the character of the woman. I think!
