US Embassy to Close Sunday Amid Potential Terrorist Threat

Due to an al-Qaeda related security threat, U.S. embassies across multiple Muslim countries will close on Sunday, August 4, according to ABC news.

The countries include Qatar, Egypt, Iraq, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and many others across the Middle East, North Africa and some parts of Asia.

The embassies will close in response to "a specific threat against a U.S. embassy or consulate," according to a senior U.S. official, who called it a "concerted effort" to target an embassy or consulate in an unspecified Muslim country.

"There could be other targets, not just embassies," another U.S. official said.

The closure was ordered by the State Department, saying, "security considerations have led us to take this precautionary step."

The embassies could remain closed past Sunday.

According to ABC news, U.S. ambassadors, and not the State Department, usually determine when embassies will shut down. A senior U.S. official called today's measures a "real precedent-setting event."

Other embassies include: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Algeria, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Libya, according to security warnings issued by those embassies.

... everytime this crazy americans go on heightened alert and close down their embassies, etc this terrorists find it convenient to bomb the Indian consultate in Afghanistan instead. Atleast the americans will have something to justify that there was a threat and can now justify their spying too but how come they did not share the information with the indians

services across the globe without minding their own business, killed so many innocent civilians including children with no crime history. They did it in the name of Americans.

I wish the people under sieged and suppressed who lost their innocent families to be more generous by forgiving the Americans.

They kill one suspect with one+ innocent which ultimately gives birth to another one+ who hates them.

Agree with joe.. what goes around comes around. A day will come when Americans themselves will come out as the Egyptians to revise their foreign policies. It is already started it will take time there will be more Ron Pauls,Jeremy Scahills, Snowdens, Mannings & more.

Well said Goj, what is known to the world is that people who made terrorists and actually are terrorizing the complete world are being shown fingers at . . . . .

They don't bother when they kill thousands across the globe and fear even a threat . . . . .

....and to imagine that all this years they were issuing travel advisories for their people not to travel to this place and to that place because of local trouble, etc. Now it looks like the trouble is a lot more worse and real where this guys set foot and back home too

Looks like this is one country that seems to be forever living in fear of the invisible threats. Just wondering if they ever thought twice before carrying out their misdeeds all around the globe.
