Unsafe Beaches & Fish Price Rise.

Swimmers urged to keep off unsafe beaches
The seashores in Wakrah, Lusail, Sealine and Al-Khor are danger zones and not fit for swimming, the Director of Security of Coastal and Territorial Borders, Brig Ali Ahmed al-Mannai said.
The reclamation of sea for urban expansion has altered the contours of the seabed and changed the directions of water currents in many places. It is therefore not advisable for the public to venture into these areas for swimming, he told the Arabic daily Al-Watan.
“But the beaches in al-Ghariya, Fuwayrit, Shemal and the Dukhan are safe. It would be advisable for the public to swim nearer to the shore and avoid going far into the sea,” he said.
Referring to the increase in fish prices he said that the recent stipulation by the government that the Qatari licencee - the owner of the fishing boat- should be on board during every trip has resulted in 80% reduction in the number of sailings by the fishing boats. And consequently the prices of fish have increased.

I love Beaches its my weekend gateway from the hustle and bustle of the city.

I thought the beach out past Sealine had been turned into a rubbish tip last time I went there. As swimming amongst plastic bags, empty cans and bottles, car parts and other human filth is not my favorite passtime i decided to give it a miss.

In Australia, last century, we ran a campaign against people who litter, branding them as the cloven hoofed beasts that they are. It worked.

Will deffo keep away from those danger zone beaches and warn others as well. won't hold my breath on spotting many warning boards though.

As for the rise in fish prices, guess the new regulation has done more harm than good, and may call for another revision then!

By timebandit• 28 Aug 2012 07:20

The dangerous beach bit is very important, and anyone using Qatar's beaches should be aware of this potentially life saving information.

If anyone visits one of the dangerous beaches can they please take a photograph of the big signs they are bound to have placed there warning people not to swim. 10 bonus points to anyone who spots one.

As regards the fishing boat farce. Not really very well thought out that government stipulation was it?
