Traveling with kids? Follow these tips to make the journey easier
The holiday season is upon us. Travel is in the air…a wave of excitement has engulfed us. Some of us are off to celebrate the holidays with family and friends, and some of us are travelling with our families to new and exciting destinations.
For those of us travelling with children-our bundles of joy that will be happy one minute and throwing tantrums the next, that will be excited one minute and then whining the next-it’s important that we plan our travel to ensure the kids are happy and enjoy the ride, so we, as parents, can retain our sanity and keep the peace.
The following are some tips that will make the journey easier for all of us:
1. Keep a first aid and medicine kit for children, in case there is a minor injury or illness.
2. Keep some books, toys and activities to keep children busy and occupied.
3. Don’t forget to pack some snacks in case the children get hungry in between meal times.
4. Make the children drink more water to keep them hydrated, even if that means more visits to the restroom.
5. Do keep extra diapers and milk for infants and toddlers
6. It’s always a good idea to pack some extra clothes for the children. You never know when you may need them.
7. Wipes can be lifesavers, so please do keep them with you.
8. Encourage the children to take a nap, especially on longer journeys.
9. As the plane descends towards its destination, changes in air pressure may cause ear pain, especially in children. If this happens, infants and toddlers should be breastfed or given a bottle of milk and older children should yawn, swallow or be given chewing gum to chew. This will help lessen the pain.
Do you agree? Do you have any tips for traveling with children?
jasminejasmine: Your view on the "two individuals" who want to be the first to have their names appear on all threads even if they write nonsense, is very true. Some months back I took a stand against the one who has been with QL for several years, and got insulted by him. I withdrew myself from Qatar Living for several weeks but then realized that it was not possible for me to change certain things in this world. Now, I hardly read any post that carries their name. However, a good part is that Mods has begun to delete many of their nonsensical posts whenever they appear.
I think you will find that screaming kids are a pain in the neck whether they accompanied by either a male or female adult. Women are irrelevant to the (poor and non eventful) story.
I and so many other previous people who loved this forum years ago are bewildered as to why it has been reduced to two individuals posting insidious crap on every singe thread and largely posting offensive, outdated views as well. How very sad
