THINK.......

You got the news about Curiosity landing in MARS. Qudos to all who are involved in this success. Here is the question:

What was the fuel used in that vehicle which travelled for 9 months and so many million Kms? I am sure there was no refulleing done on the way!! Can the scientists device similar technology for our Cars? You mean just buy a fuel cell and drive for the life of the car.

If this happens then what will happen to GCC?
Your thought...........

First of all THANKS for your thoughts. I like the proper packaging of nuclear energy idea which seems realistic in todays world. Only thing is we need to conserve that energy and release as required. For sure our roads will not allow the speed like blasting off. Now the issues are radioactive....how to contain in case of a mishap? Can there be any self destruction(of the fuel cell only) possible? or is it possible to have something like a black box or so which will be reliable enough to remain as is by self seal/destruct/deactivate or do not how. Disposal is another issue..

Practically I feel even if they find some solution it will not be made public for long time to come due to its devastating affect on the world economy.

By the way our cars are designed for about 500-600K kms of running.

Optimus_Prime said plutonium energy ...

Pearl Q,

Curiosity like voyager in the past uses very little quantity of plutonium which is extremely radio active in nature, but I guess the Space team figured out a way to safely pack it as its fuel supply.

unfortunately solar energy cannot be used exetensively in mars because

a) of the distance from sun

b) Scientist needs to figure out first even if they get the sun rays whether the dust storm from mars can hamper its use

Well about alternate fuel there are various options available , but it mass scale availability is yest to be seen

a) Hydrogen power

b)nuclear power (cold fission) if scientist can make some break through in the BERN

c) Solar

d) Geo Thermal

e) loog at long life reusagl batterries e.t.c

c)

These space vessels dump some of their fuel containers after using the fuel to boost their vessel off earth right? Then in space there is nothing which decelerates the vessel on its way to Mars, thus using less fuel per km from then on to get to target site. Scientists using similar technology (who want to create a similar fuel cell device to use for cars) would have to factor in gravity and friction which decelerates our cars plus general non littering road rules. Also our much smaller budgets to buy such a fuel cell for our personal cars. I am optimistic though that the fuel device you are thinking of is quite probable in the near future as fuel efficiency and sustainable energy sourced batteries/fuel devices improves every year.

Are you talking about the fuel for propulsion of the rocket towards Mars or the fuel used for Curiosity Rover to move on the surface of Mars?
