THE suspect, who has been taken into custody in connection with the slashing of hundreds of tyres of vehicles parked in the Al Saad area, has told the police that he carried out the attack as an act of vindictiveness.
In a statement released yesterday, the Public Relations Department at the Interior Ministry said the suspect had confessed to the crime. He had admitted responsibility for slashing the tyres of 50 vehicles, the statement said.
“He said he had done it as a retaliatory act,” an official said.
According to the statement, the suspect, a foreigner, had handed himself over to the Al Sadd police and admitted that he had slit the tyres of the vehicles as he wanted to take revenge on a motorist in the area.
“He was hesitant at first but later admitted that he had committed the crime as a retaliatory act against an owner of a car in the area and that he used a knife for the attack,” the statement said.
“The suspect has been referred to the Public Prosecution and now is in custody for investigation,” the statement added.
A source had earlier said that the man in custody was a 19-year old American of Jordanian origin.
According to the Al Saad police, they have received eight complaints until July 28 from the residents of the area claiming that their tyres had been slashed by an unknown person.
Meanwhile, the Interior Ministry has appealed to the public to co-operate with the security departments by reporting any act of vandalism, targeting public or private properties.

In the newspapers here just believe a pinch of salt of it. Do you really think that 1 19year old boy slashed all those tires in that period of time? Also, an American of Jordanian origin, wouldn't he go to the American Embassy first, as he is an American National before anything else? I think there is something more to this than what is actually been written!!! There is already a lot of tension between Qatari's and Jordanians, and now this??? Makes you think there is some kind of conspiracy going on here ;)

that he did it all by himself? I dont think so because of how many cars he slashed, in one day?? and someone should have noticed him.He admitted that he done it alone so that all his friends will walk clean. Maybe its a test or somekind for him to join a frat?
