Strap Them in !!!!!!!!!!

By Steve1

What is wrong with you people, I am talking to the selfish numbskulls who drive on these roads with their kids loose in the car!
STRAP THEM IN!
Don't sit them on your lap, all that happens in a crash (which of course is very rare here) is that your most prcious possesion protects you from serious injury by forming a soft protective cushion between you and the dashboard!
If they stand between the seats, if you drive into someone, they end up 30 metres up the road in front of you, if someone drives into you, they end up on their bonnet after going through the rear screen, you of course will be fine as I notice these 'Parents' always use their own seatbelts, so you will be able to live the rest of your lives with the regret.
Why do you use your seatbelt and yet don't see the need to strap in your children?

It is the EVIL WEST again!!!

They invented cars for the sole reason of killing little Arab children!

This was an especially evil plot to diminish the Arab population.

They knew about the oil a LONG time ago, and new the Arabs will spend oil money on fast, big cars..so they produced them and sold them to the Arabs...knowing they would drive carelessly and not use seat belts on their children.

Sadly, even Japan is involved in this...they are now paying the price for their evilness(earthquake, tsunami)

I hate that this is their response to things like this, "It is God's Will" I'm sorry but, the resources for prevention are out there and some kids will suffer/die because of their UNwillingness to use those resources.

It is their choice - if they think that it is gods will and this is their culture - they will not change because of a post on QL.

It is very much as somebody said up there,’ you are given a day to be born and given a day to die’.

It is as simple as that to them.

Let them get on with it. Most of us hates the idea that a child is injured or killed because they were not strapped in etc.

If they choose not to take the safe route, they will keep losing children.

WE mourn them; they don’t.

Let it be – we make sure our kids are safe.

That to me is all that matters. If their kids are not safe in our eyes- let it go.

We are not going to change it on QL.

its not only the arabs/muslims but also the indians/south asians about whom i commented.these 2 groups make up for the majority of people being discussed here...no need to feel offended mate.

My kids know the rule: If they aren't strapped in, Mum's car ain't moving an inch.

If the idiotic parents of those poor kids don't bother , why should we? Maybe it's Gods way of getting rid of recessive genes from the pool.

arabs/muslims think that the day of death as well of birth are fixed. so if you are destined to die, you will die no matter you use your seat belt or not.to them i would like to say that there is no place for suicide in islam. driving without a seat belt or doing any work without taking the required precaution is like attempting suicide.so my dear arabs/muslims take care of your life it is precious.

indians/south asians dont use seat belt because they dont know its use, rather the benefits of its use. by the way, seat belts are optional in cars which are sold in india.............i see it as a strategy to reduce population;)

Horrifies me whenever I see that, especially if they're right in front of me. It's not unconceivable that someone could rearend me, and push me right into the car in front.

By nomerci• 26 Mar 2011 19:16

chocoholic, just yesterday I saw about 5 kids crammed into the trunk....sadly the trunk had a huge window...imagine what would happen if a car drives into that.....

I think it is simple logic...but hey, that's me.

Steve , do you think it will make a difference if they read in on QL?

I have tried to personally tell people....made no difference at all. now i simply leave it up to them...their kids, not mine.

By chocoholic• 26 Mar 2011 19:14

And not only in the front, but what about all the kids bouncing around in the far back section of land cruisers!

With all the rear-end accidents here it seems like a no brainer...

By Oryx• 26 Mar 2011 19:11

Totally agree and it sickens me to see kids ready to be projected thru the front windscreen, usually whilst the driver is also using a mobile and having a cigarette.

Also fines believe it or not are imposed...I know someone who was fined.

It doesn't help if only people who DO use the seat belt on children talk about this...but that seems to be all that is happening.

if you give them a piece of your mind, they'll probably just tell you that if it's God's will, there's nothing they can do to stop it.. that is how most of them think... poor kids can't choose their parents..

I'm afraid that they don't learn even if they saw serious accidents in the roads all day. Education and discipline is necessary for this kind of people and this should be done in a harsh way.

By AngelinaBallerina• 26 Mar 2011 18:41
AngelinaBallerina

Not much we can do I'm afraid......as long as we buckle our children up thats all we need to worry about. I do think these parents are as thick as two short planks though....

By Steve1• 26 Mar 2011 18:24
Steve1

Angelina I understand what you are saying but the children are what matter here, not the idiot parents, I couldn't care less about them, they make a decision not to wear seatbelts, the kids don't.

Its no different to seeing a parent beating a child up and walking past without comment.

By AngelinaBallerina• 26 Mar 2011 18:12

They obviously couldn't give a toss so why should we? Let them learn the hard way.......

Thank you tinkerbell. marycatherine, in light of what you wrote I would add that any driver not requiring children in the car to wear safety belts should ALSO be required to visit the neurological wards.

By marycatherine• 26 Mar 2011 18:05
marycatherine

The only Arab and Indian parents (and other Asians) who take your advice are those who have visited or have had to visit the neurological hospital units in the region. And that's the happy ending.

The God Willing argument is old and tired. If you take your child for vaccinations or to the doctor when he has an ear ache - a car seat is a small investment. If he yells/screams/cries at least he is alive.

ETA it's not just Arab or Asian parents who are irresponsible, I've seen European/Western looking parents who are just as irresponsible with their most precious "possessions" children.

By frenchieman• 26 Mar 2011 18:03

I totally agree with the OP. In civilized countries drivers with children not wearing safety belts are severely fined and sometimes face a suspension of their license. They want so much to emulate the West in other ways, why not this one?

Dilly, you read my mind, I was thinking of having a rant about smoking as well!!

It should be compulsary to visit a mortuary during the driving test.

What I find strange is that these people actually believe they are good parents.

By Dilly• 26 Mar 2011 17:27

I once saw an infant sitting on her moms lap in the front seat and her dad sitting in the drivers seat smoking a cigarette. My husbands uncle saw me strapping my little one in the car seat and said "what is all this, are you traveling one an airplane? Too much security".

I spoke to a local colleague about this..

His response was that with extended families, child seats take up unneccessary space and are cumbersome.

Slo, what's really needed is education and enforcement.

By Steve1• 26 Mar 2011 16:59
Steve1

If children are trained from the start to belp up when they get into the car, then they will without a fuss, its only when they are allowed to do as they please that there is a problem.

The basic thing to remember is that YOU are the parent and they are YOUR responsibility, take it seriously.

I would actually go as far to say that anyone who drives with a child loose in a car is a bad parent.

I totally agree - it makes me so mad to see these innocent children hanging out car windows, or sitting on their parents laps. Even if the kids don't like to be strapped in they should be forced. It's better to let them cry over a seatbelt than God forbid be involved in serious accident... I wish more attention was brought to this with the authorities here

most children dont like being strapped-up and show their displeasure in the most sonorous way which the parents hate to bear...

but its stupidity..not love.

Wasn't it just road safety week recently? Why on earth don't the police stop these people and do something about it? I was driving yesterday and saw a guy in a Mercedes saloon driving at speed with his toddler sitting on his lap. Honestly, it makes me want to weep. I want to stop them and ask them how much they love their children, because if they DO love them they would take proper care of them by restraining them in their cars. I don't suppose they'll change.....*sigh*

I agree with you steve, people need to be educated on the matter. Also i think it should be made compulsory to fasten seat belts while sitting on rear seats also. That can help a lot.
