Two US fighter jets dropped unarmed bombs off of Australia's coast during a war games training exercise that went wrong.

Australians and environmentalists have reacted furiously to the news that two US fighter jets dropped four unarmed bombs on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park

The two Harrier jets launched from aircraft carrier USS Bonhomme Richard each jettisoned an inert bomb and an unarmed explosive bomb in the World Heritage-listed marine park on Tuesday when a training exercise went wrong.

Have we gone completely mad? Is this how we look after our World Heritage area now? Letting a foreign power drop bombs on it?" said Larissa Waters, Australian Senator Australian Senator, Larissa Waters, the Greens party's spokeswoman on the Great Barrier Reef, described the dumping of bombs in such an environmentally sensitive area as outrageous

"Have we gone completely mad?" she told Australian Broadcasting Corp. "Is this how we look after our World Heritage area now? Letting a foreign power drop bombs on it?".

Graeme Dunstan, who is among the environmentalists and anti-war activists demonstrating against the joint exercises, said the mishap proved that the US military could not be trusted to protect the environment.

"How can they protect the environment and bomb the reef at the same time? Get real," Dunstan said.

Unexploded bombs and shipwrecks are sites of some of the most beautiful coral formations.

Look at the bright side. The bombs will settle on the sea bed and help in creating a new coral and sea life environment.

Americans protect only their own interest ... at whatever cost and damage to other people and country....

Remember Iraq ? What they they do to it? It's a complete mess.. Afghanistan?

Philippines... Well, we were together in the 2nd world war but the veterans could not even get their green cards even in their dying days....

This is AMERICA....

not surprising at all. several months ago a us navy ship got stuck in tubbataha reef, a unesco world heritage site, destroying thousands of square meters' worth of corals. it was said that some of the corals were around 500 years old.

people who do this should be made to walk barefoot on dead corals for the rest of their lives
