Should you be fined for being Obese?
By Formatted Soul •
Alabama state facing steep rise in its obese population, has decided to crack down on its state employees who are too fat. It has given its 37,527 employees a year to start getting fit failing which, they will have to pay $25 a month for insurance that was otherwise free.
but i-moody how would you make people move?? Diet is only half the answer

How about fining those companies which sell those junk food which cause obesity? They put all sort of ingredients that cause crave for their products plus the loads of fat and artificial products in it. Would it not be better? Have we noticed how these junk food are cheaper than healthy food.
I guess, instead of fining these people, the government should subsidise those companies that supply healthy food. Or may be, reward those citizens who do not costs them a lot say in a two year period. In that way, people might be encouraged to stay healthy and reduce their intake of junk food.
We should not be looking at the result, we should be looking at its cause.
...and when was it called a disease?
Oh well...good luck to the future...
Organ transplants would be the norm.
God! We're dead at an early age! Zombies roam the world!

Theoretically, In the future scientists would have discovered the cure for most deseases including obesity. Organ transplants would be the norm.
So, we can eat and drink ourselves silly and it wouldn't matter a sausage.

now whosoever wanted to see galz in bikinis... go see the attachment... u will love it... and wonder why on earth did they wear that bikini.. LOL
mmmmm, most diseases and we include cancer here are caused by environmental influences...whether it be drink, smoking, drugs, food......majority of people don't die of 'old age' anymore but from other factors...we should make a list now of who not to treat!
Lol Gypsy.. I guess you are right there.. ( hhhmmm.. now I'm happy drinking beer while smoking)
Cheers Gypsy

Well here you have no choice but to smoke while drinking. Ick.
HHmmm... I agree with you on that one Gypsy for the smokers.. But it's da** good to smoke while drinking eh??

Cool. Works for me.
Futurists have predicted that obese people will be treated with the same level of scorn as people who smoke. Smoking was accepted as the norm but now it is becoming banned everywhere, including within one's own car in some countries. It is predicted that once there is more and more education, obese people who refuse/don't want to follow the advice will be treated as smokers are today.....taken from a western point of view

Alcohol will be a difficult one because you have to abuse it before it's unhealthy, but cigarettes, sorry, no excuse.
Nah Gypsy... not smokers and alcohol please.... (hhmm.. dang... that will be hard for me)

I think we should also fine smokers and drug and alcohol abusers.
There're more people who need to get fined or get a penalty than the obese ones...
Plus they don't do or move much...leaves them unnecessary for any or some conflict that may arise from any politics, corruption, crime, or otherwise.
Leave 'em alone. What they need to get concerned is their health. If you forced an obese to slim up, some aftereffects in the body may happen which may lead to death...

agree with you gyp
Everybody is right everybody is wrong, it depend where you stand
I said it shouldn't be a blanket fine. But if you're fat cause you can't stop stuffing in the Big Macs, then yes, you should pay.
Would you be of the same thought tomorrow if your weight balooned to 120 kilos due to hormonal imbalance or other problems?
We , as a society cannot and should not discriminate against size, creed, colour etc.
they should pay double airfare ticket tho.
Everybody is right everybody is wrong, it depend where you stand
Communism doesn't bother me at all, so I don't care. Fine the fatties.
discrimination based on mass! Racist, baldrick! Just to make sure: Joking
... Make fatties pay for 2 seats ;o)

and while were at it let's dictate how one should dress, speak, discipline our children....oh wait, we do do that through media and positive social behavior cues. The insurance company is a business and they don't want to pay. An obese person will have more health problems. If they were a cigarette company or fast food joint then no problem! What is funny is that it's this very social system that has brought on obesity. (Fat food is cheap, organic expensive. Everything is on a screen for the kids, hell who needs to play outside with the trees and the birds!) You want a healthier community then big business is going to go out of business. Many people truly don't know how to lose weight. Educate! Do these companies educate while they put on the 1 year stipulation?
absolutely, brit. How can a pilot know the "real" mass of the plane if he has just a count of "people". Could be very dangerous at take-off.
why not...lol kidding...
So you are suggesting that there should be a"total" weight limit, which includes passenger + luggage..
lol Pieman....
Absolutley agree.
And here is another area that needs looking at.
It really pi$$es me off when I get on a flight and get charged excess baggage because I'm 5 kilo's over when the person in front had the correct luggage weight but themselves weighed over a 100 kilos. ( I weigh 70kgs)
just eat another pie (or not if your obese)
would get fined, especially a lot of the local kids...
It's alrite dude, you can keep that one. Have changed mine already. I've been using that since forever! ;)

If it's not a carpet policy based on weight, then I'm all for it, and for smokers to!
i've no idea rayyz... will change mine...
I had a very positive experience of the Hamad when I had an op in 2007. It couldn't have been more professional. The ward sister ruled the ward and the nurses were so efficient and kind. The ward was clean and very well organised. The Outpatients is the only negative experience I had, being shouted at, pushed and having other patients barging in when I was with the doctor.
The hospital itself was great, I felt very safe.
I think thats stupid.... Last time I was home I was looking at the policemen walking around and thinking "good God, this is what is supposed to protect me?". The only hope he would ever have at catching a criminal would be to shoot him cause these guys could barely get out of their squad car.
I think there should be a degree of fitness for jobs that require it and if you dont meet that criteria you should be sacked.
I should try apply to be a horse jockey, then sue because I am a foot too tall and about 50 pounds too heavy lol.
In the UK a fireman has just won his appeal after being discharged on health grounds because he is too heavy to climb ladders or go in the lifting equipment. He got a huge payout. And after 15 years in the NHS, don't get me started on fat nurses!
None taken but Hamad is working towards better patient care and patient safety, however, even doctors are not infallible even if we like to believe so. There is also a very large Quality Management group now looking to improve services and it is working.
Batriatric surgery and plastic surgery do not really come under the scope of improper diagnosis resulting in disaster.
Also, this happens everywhere, and more frequently than you think, other countries are just a wee but more experienced with their PR to spin and cover such incidents.
No offence meant....I agree that its improving now.
I personaly know few cases...lack of proper diagnosing caused disasters.
Gastric banding has been done in Hamad since 2000 (before it was FDA approved).
They are more than competent and I know at least a dozen or so who have had it done. Why would you think it is not safe? They also do great reconstructive surgery (including lipo on tummy tucks). You are very misinformed Formatted
Stories will always circulate about Hamad but Hamad is improving in Quality and in patient safety in fact over the last year there have been many policies and prodedures put in place and great improvements.
I don't think liposuction is the answer I think a general change in eating habits and more excercise would be the right adjustment.
I don't like yours :0
I am not sure whether I agree with the measure. Weere the staff told of the requirement when they were hired? What is considered fat ?
Do you know anyone who had a surgery in Hamad? You refereing to Lipsuction?
I dont think its safe to do it here...after hearing many stories..its not wise to do such procedures here.
.fined for being Obese?
.
.certainly weight is plummeting......
.
.
The surgery in Hamad hospital is about 6500 QR.
And lets get honest here... looking at the food isnt what puts on the weight :)
A lot of people always say (including myself) "I dont know how I got so fat" or "I tried everything"
You do know how you got fat, and you didnt try everything. I hate these cop outs.
lol FS... lemme think about it...lol
will you pay for the surgery?
wondering the same.. i thought for a while it was you who commented..
actually last time i count, 3 of you uses that avatar, coolio, you and now my dear junarch.. :)

that policy will surely gonna help them loose weight LOL
is this a real pic?
The one on the right looks positively skinny by comparison!

In fact the policy should sound like ”If you are healthy, your insurance is free, if you are unhealthy/obese, you pay for your own insurance” - that sounds like incentive and not penalty.
Obesity can also be due to genetic or hormonal disorder, so I am sure that should also be looked into rather than a carpet policy based on weight.
talk about "HUGE"....
check out the attachment.. I dont know how to paste the pic in the thread.
I like the concept, but there is issue with people with medical conditions that cause obesity.
I think that asking them to pay 25 a month for their own insurance is a good idea.. and they should implement the same thing for smokers.
hmm...
