Breaking on CNN.
King Abdulla has pardoned the rape victim

Truth be told, I hadn't given the guy so much thought as the woman as the furore was all about her.

Good point Knox and Fluffy. He should also be 'pardoned'. _______________________________________________________

The Qatif girl and her companion both got sexually assaulted. So why has the King pardoned the girl and not the Guy?

I hate to say it but looks as if the Western media deliberately ignored the guy. I believe the Media was just trying to highlight the plight of women in Saudi Arabia and for that they found the person who would take their message across the world.

"What about the guy who was with the Qatif Girl. He also got raped/molested. He was also sentenced some lashes. What happened to him. Why is he being lashed for being molested.

The whole world talked about the girl but no one has talked about the guy. He also got molested. He also deserves a Royal pardon.

Am I the only one who is sympathizing with the guy?"

knoxcollege, the woman and the man were not given lashes for the attack that occurred. they were given lashes because they were having a relationship and they were not married.

Au contraire Alexa, her husband has been fully by her side throughout her ordeal. He has been on TV and Radio programmes in the Arab media criticising her punishment and canvassing support for her plight. I've heard him myself.

Just what a husband should be doing in the situation. Well done to him.

that's a surprise...and a disappointment for the poor girl...she certainly deserved much more than that...but an apology would be a great start.

What BP said is true..she will now have to live with the emotional scars and sitgma..not to mention the chance of having AIDS or other veneral diseases, from these animals who raped her.

I am facing prosecution by the Turkish Tourist Board for picking up relatives at Bodrum Airport in June. I think I mentioned it on another thread at the time.

Apparently a document I signed indicating that my personal details were correct was a full confession that I was running an un-licenced airport transfer service.

I am not amused and the judge knows that!.

Reminds me of the BA pilot who lost his job for announcing over the intercom "We will shortly be landing in Jeddah, please put your watches on by two hours and your calendars back by 200 years".

I hope the lawyer does get his licence back.

I believe the Saudi Ministry of Justice said that the "pardoning was for the good of the people".

By diamond• 17 Dec 2007 18:26
diamond

Right decision by King. Although the word 'exoneration' would have sat better than 'pardoned'.

Kudos to the Arab media for doing so much to highlight this issue and bringing it to the attention of other media. This, I believe, was the catalyst for the King making this decision.

Kudos to her Saudi lawyer who appeared a lot on the Arab media discussing the decision. He continues to fight to get his licence back and has said that he will devote his career to further the cause of human rights in Saudi.

Let's hope that this horrendous event will be the start of Saudi dragging themselves out of the Dark Ages in the way they treat their women. Inshallah.

Well, the only good thing is that this poor girl will not have to suffer any punishment for a crime she didnt commit. As usual, a way has been found so that nobody has to omit a mistake or take back anything that they have said or done. A pardon, poor thing didnt do anything so how she can have a pardon for a crime she didnt commit, well at least everybody can pat themselves on the back and walk away happy, except that poor girl, she'll have the scars and stigma for the rest of her life.

What a world we live in..................stinks to hell sometimes

That's really good to hear. Of course with all the slander and emotional turmoil she's been forced to endure (and probably will endure for the rest of her life) she deserves much more then a pardon.

I'm afraid compensation has gone way too far. It's as if you're afraid to speak in case you get sued. Maybe suing is not the answer.

Mila, you are correct, the girl now needs peace, so she can move on and hopefully have a wonderful life.

she does indeed deserve more than just a pardon

@boer, if suing is what being in a first world country means, then I'd like to stay a 3rd world one. I don't want to be in constant fear of being sued because someone burned their baby toe dipping it into a cup of coffee saying WARNING HOT, DO NOT PUT ANYTHING INSIDE HERE UNTIL IT COOLS DOWN, INCLUDING YOUR BABY TOE!

shhh not so loud people...if she goes to sue..she might end up getting more lashes..its good enough she was pardoned for being raped and in the car with unrealted men...now if she demands MONEY for being raped and from unrelated men...i'd hate to think of it.

And huge compensation too!! In the first world she could sue for millions.
