Sanjeev Kapoor's Khazana

Have you been to the newly opened Sanjeev Kapoor's Khazana, I have been there thrice and i tell you just what we all needed in Indian fine dining has finally arrived in DOHA. They have raised the bars for Indian Cuisine. What a great location right in front of Corniche opposite the Ministry of External Affairs building near Diwan Emiri. It is a heritage structure and i was told that the entire building structure has been kept as it is except for the interiors which i would say match the heritage structure. It is probably a great place as one can party in private as they have mostly private dining rooms which gives a great place for privacy for family dining. We also dined once in the open terrace verandha, wow the cool weather is a blessing to dine, specially overlooking the corniche. The garden lawn and the water stream running is a soothing place for people to actually relax after a hearty meal. I saw some dignitaries smoking cigars after a great meal. I am also told that the whose who of Qatar have already visited the place. I am sure they must have.
The food is 5 star, the crockery cutlery and stylish service has definitely created a bench mark for Indian restaurants to come now. I was told that the stewards have different coloured uniforms for day and night. For the first time in Qatar i ate kababs that where succulent and juicy. The curries had the right flavour and each one different from the other. I had Mahi Achari Tikka( Fish kababs), Patiyala Seekh kababs for starters and Chicken Caferal, Mangalorean fish curry, Sham Savera kofta and the Lalla Mussa Dal. I must tell you the Lalla Mussa Dal was the best i have ever tasted in my life and will keep going there for more. The restaurant follows a great concept of serving lassi shots after kababs which they saw a mouth refreshners and i like it very much. The biryanis flavoured right and i was told that they follow the Hyderbadi Style which was awesome. The desserts are the real winners i have never seen Indian desserts presented so well and more so the right amount of sweetness. I was told that they where introducing sugar free desserts shortly. Finally the unique thing that comes in the end is the great digestive tea which i tell you washes away all that you have eaten and you want more and more of it. I must tell you that if you have haven't been there you missing on something.
The place is rocking man and the cuisine fabulous for everyone. It is must visit place now in Qatar.
I have a great picture of the restaurant for all of you.

My family and my friends family went to Sanjeev Kapoor Khazana last night in Doha Qatar. Just like to mention some good and bad.

Good:

1. The location is great.

2. service is very good.

3. very clean

Bad:

1. The food is Terrible, and it was recommended by staff. we ordered, Murgh Laziz Tik, Chicken Cafreal, Biryani Murgh, Paneer Reshmi and Assort, Bread Basket. with drinks, Virgin Pina Col, Lassi Lychee Pepper, Lassi Apple and Strawberry Sunr.

2. It was over priced

3. and once again the FOOD SUX.

agreed with you 1000 % the food is expensive and the service is not as good as it should be . comparing the food i must say ALISHAN have more choices in menu and lower prices then sanjeev kapoor's money making khazana

I agree, eby 1975- I dined there once too and our family vowed never to go there again.

The recipes Sanjeev Kapoor shows on TV seem totally different from the ones served there.

But the ambience of the place is out of this world + the whole thing can be afforded only by the rich and the famous.

Ask how many people know Alfred Prasad and how many know Sanjeev Kapoor. There would be many restaurant better than a Gordon Ramsay however a Gordon Ramsay is one who makes every Brit proud, the sameway a Sanjeev Kapoor makes every Indian Proud and is a known face spreading Indian Cuisine. Only because of him did we all Indians learn to respect the word Chef, i am sure you would agree to this. I congratulate Alfred Prasad too for his efforts to make Indian cuisne the number one cuisine in the world. At least in Doha I feel there is a new bench mark for Indian Restaurants. We where all looked down upon till date for our food offerings however this one has made all of us proud. You would agree to once you visit.

The recipe for Makhni Gravy looks like something you'd find on the back of a box of curry powder. Alfred Prasad at the Tamarind in Mayfair is also doing a good job of bringing Indian cuisine to a wider audience. Here's a recipe done well:

I need not say more but yes he is the only celebrity Chef of India a country of one billion population could produce and we all should be proud of that. His efforts in bringing the finest restaurant to Doha is my experience and i have shared with all. His efforts in the shows that i notice is simplifying things for everyone so that more people reach out to try Indian Cuisine. Imagine if he where to give a list of more than 20 spices to make a garam masala i am sure no body would try making it. However the restaurant is unique and makes me proud at least so i will keep raving about it.

So, he's been called the Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay of India, but I'm not convinced. I suspect I'm going to be shot down by Indians saying I don't know jack about their cookery, but a brief flick through the recipes on his website comes up with this:

MAKHNI GRAVY

Now, if this is how he's going to make the sauce for his butter chicken, I don't think I'll be having it thanks.

Pressure-cookers? Microwaves?

You'd think for a so-called great chef, he'd at least suggest you used whole spices, dry roasted and crushed, rather than a bag of garam masala powder. Or maybe using fresh chillis instead of chilli powder.

If you are Diwani Emiri Round about and driving towards corniche end take the left from the round about and the next left from signal which is opposite the Diwan Emiri, it is the second building on the right hand side.

From the Islamic Cultural arts center if driver straight ahead you will see a seafood restaurant on left and on the right stood the HSBC building which is now no more there ahead of that on the left you see Khazana opposite external affairs building. I hope this is clear and enjoy your meal.

Cheers!!!!!!!!

From the Islamic Museum ra you drive ahead and take the left from the round about and the next right from the round about you drive around 100 meters and see the restaurant opposite External affairs office. It is diagonally opposite the previous HSBC. A meal for two is not more than 250 QR's.

Exactly where is the location? If we come towards Amiri Diwan from Arab Bank R/A? Is it very expensive?
