I have been receiving advertising sms from Qtel for a while without my subscription, is this legal? can it be considered spamming?

try Turning off your TOPIC INDEX on the settings of the phone or under messages/messaging. that would do the trick :D

i have been getting a lot of spam lately, and i doubt you can do anything about it, at least they dont call your house in the early hours of the morning like they do back home, but what bothers me more is the messages from doha bank about some guys account, i get tens of messages a week about his withdrawals (sometimes at the weirdest times), his salary deposit etc, and he must have some trouble with the law, cause i also get messages from the courts reminding me of some sort of hearing always 9am always alsadd building....now thats annoying...

It's hard to know if QTel is just selling the numbers to companies, or if companies are selling numbers to one another, since my different mobile numbers get different spam.

In any case, I just don't think there is any protection from it. As with anything government related in this part of the world, QTel can do what they like to who they like, and there's nothing you can do.

I hear you real, I hate those messages. I dont care if I buy 1 I get 3 free suits from some shop I never heard of. You can complain if a person is sending you messages but not complain if Q-Tel does it because I would imagine they are making money off it.

I cant wait for voda

Doubt if it's illegal here. And if it was, doubt you could do anything about it!

This sort of telephone marketing would be illegal in many countries, as you have to opt-in to receive such thing.

zayd - stop trolling.

yes it is offensive definitely,... i think text messages from the likes of HomesRus are free alerts...

this thread would need to have a purpose for me to hijack it. So what if it's illegal, what would you do? Sue homesRus? Sue Qtel? Get a new phone? As you can see, this is such a red hot issue that people can't wait to comment on it and give their multiple interpretations of such an odd and dangerous phenomena khown as telephone marketing.
