Kuddos to ALL QLers for their kind support to the needy man (Mr. Abboo) and Special Thanks to Qatari/ ahmed and to QL Admin. Team and to my office colleagues and all those who came forward and extended their help to QLVG Appeal.

When I saw Abboo I thought he is someone else since he looks like an very elderly man in his 80's, although he is 61yrs old man but due to the odd job he has done in past 9yrs and hard work under the sun has made him look much more older then his age. (May Al Mighty Allah give him good health and long life).

Mr. Abboo was very pleased to receive the cheque of QR.12,000/- and we told him that this money came from kind heart people of Qatarliving.com which is a Community Website and one can find people from all over the globe under the banner of Qatarliving. Mr. Aboo Thanked to All Qlers for coming forward and extending their help to him and his family. He also said he will use this money for his wife medication who is very sick in India and also for his daughter education and other expenses.

(Ali handing over the cheque to Aboo. Indian Ambassador Dr George Joseph, embassy minister Sanjiv Kohli and Dr Mohan Thomas are also seen)

Also our Special Thanks goes to :

  1. The Team of Gulftimes and Qatar Tribune.
  2. Dr. Mohan Thomas - President and his Team (Mr. Divakar - Gen Secretary and and Mr. Dey - Past President) from ICBF (Indian Community Benevolent Funf) for their full support to QL Appeal in collection cash donations and providing receipt against Cash received. I must admit without their (ICBF) support it would have been a very difficult task for us to collect cash donation.

In the photo, myself and other QL members are present ( ONE QL MEMBER IS HIDING BEHIND THE CAMERA - GUESS WHO??) ... along with Indian Ambassador Dr George Joseph, embassy minister Sanjiv Kohli and Dr Mohan Thomas are also seen

Well done QLers and Keep up the mission of helping needy people.

'TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONE'S LIFE'

Jazak Allah Kahir and God Bless You All.

Here is the Gulf Times article:

Stranded Indian gets cheque for QR12,000

Published: Friday, 25 July, 2008, 03:05 AM Doha Time

By Ramesh Mathew

MEMBERS of the www.qatarliving.com website have donated QR12,000 to stranded Indian expatriate P Aboo, who has been unable to travel home for more than nine years, because of a travel ban.
The travel ban was imposed over rental arrears for the building from where he ran a restaurant until early 2001.
At the Indian embassy yesterday, members of the website handed over the money that they had raised among themselves in two meetings held over the last few days. Representing the group, A Ali, known as “Speed” in community circles, gave the cheque and a gift to Aboo. Indian Ambassador George Joseph, embassy minister Sanjiv Kohli and other officials were present.
Speed said their community website was only too happy to associate with a humanitarian gesture to help a man, who had been stranded in the country for such a long time.
He said the decision to help Aboo was taken in response to the Gulf Times last Friday. He said members and his friends from many nationalities responded generously and they raised the money over just two meetings.
Indian Ambassador Joseph said the biggest credit for the whole exercise in making the campaign a big success would go to Aboo himself.
“What is most remarkable is the fact that he (Aboo) made a Herculean effort to repay his huge rental arrears of about QR200,000 by undertaking a number of odd jobs over the last seven years,” he said.
“Credit should also go to the building owner, who decided to forgo almost half of Aboo’s outstanding arrears,” he said.
Indian Community Benevolent Fund (ICBF) president Dr Mohan Thomas, who made the first donation to the campaign was present. While thanking all who helped make the campaign a grand success, Thomas made an appeal to community forums to come to the aid of the needy they required assistance the most.
Aboo said the cash would help with treatment for his ailing wife and the marriage of his only daughter. He last saw his daughter as a nine-year-old girl, he said.
Besides the assistance from Nasser al-Hajri Group chairman Ravi Pillai, Qatar Consillium managing director B Siva Sankar, Qatar Living and Dr Thomas, the Indian embassy also received some smaller contributions from community members.

to Mr. Aboo, he was really a needy person.

We have so many projects in pipeline but to be successful in each project, we have to have dedicated volunteers to run the certain groups such as 'Women Volunteer Wing' who will look after women and family issues ....

Other Volunteers will look after projects such as 'People with special needs' .... innocent people jail/ deportation cells/ labour issues etc....

We will start one project and see how it goes then only we will continue with other projects (Inshah'Allah)

Mabrouk. The picture looks good. You guys cleaned up pretty well.I am sure you felt good seeing Mr Aboo's face when you gave him the funds.

Well, we are ready for the next project!

I would like to suggest we keep on focussing on the "lost" cases. The cases nobody cares about. The people who need it most. Yes I know some schools need help. But those kids have parents/family. Let's focus on projects for people who have nobody to help them. No family. The women in Jail is a good idea. Stranded workers, fire victims etc. What do you think?

Suggestion - SPEED, maybe 2 years ago the moms from the American School put together baby gift/supply packs for pregnant ladies who were stuck in the deportation center. I don't know how they arranged that or got it approved but that would be a nice thing to do I think.

12K from QLers? decent sum.

Good job Speed and all involved. But there are more like Mr Aboos in Qatar. The sorrow and the pain is unending. Great we could be of help to atleast 1.

I think of the rich businessmen in Qatar who can afford to spend thousands of riyals in a day and pays so meager amount to his labours ..... .its pathetic as if humanity is dead. Thanks to all QLers..who proved that humanity is still alive.
