QAWS :: Please Help!!
2 months after the fire and we find ourselves at our lowest point yet. There are currently over 30 dogs and puppies staying at Paws & Claws Boarding Kennels that can't stay there indefinitely as the kennels are booked for Eid with boarders. We also have a waiting list of over 15 dogs and 20 cats that are wanting to come in for rehoming that we just can't accomodate.
If you are looking to adopt an animal, please visit our website www.qaws.org to see some of the dogs that have been with us a while. The puppies, newer dogs and cats are not yet on the site so please come down to meet them all or call 5396074 for more information on who else is available. The QAWS email address is having some technical difficulties so please call or come down one afternoon.
We are still looking for foster homes but PLEASE be 100% sure you can commit to an indefinite period of time before taking on a foster pet.
We are open every afternoon except Wednesdays between 3.30pm and 5pm for people to come and see the animals and inquire about adoption proceedures. ALL of our animals are either staying at Paws & Claws or with foster families and we can put you in touch with foster parents to view other animals.
We are also desperately looking for our volunteers to start to come back down to walk, bathe and socialise the animals as we are stretched to breaking point and could do with some extra pairs of hands.
The new shelter plans are stunning but without charity status, our own land and a large amount of money they are just not going to happen overnight. We are desperately trying to get a very basic temporary facility up as soon as possible that can take the pressure off.

Infact it costs all of us money every month - time, petrol, mobile bills etc... none of which we claim back when there is money. Fortunately we are always getting donations in the form of foods, cleaning materials and other things that it takes to run the shelter:-)
Thank you for always supporting us:-)

Well my house is bursting at the seams with fosters (and an absolutely end of tether husband)but I do have some money. Will pop in and put something on your vets bills. And whilst I too agree that this should not be a slagging match I would like to point out that when I foster dogs and cats, all of whom so far have been rehomed to permanent owners who I check up on, I do foot the bill for their food and vets bills. And, actually, I think that you will find that a great deal of fosterers do as well, it is part of the responsibility if you are willing to take it. Obviously when the fire happened it was a desperate time and the first priority was getting the dogs into homes for their safety. Now the priority for us supporters should also include remembering that the QAWS folks all put a huge amount of their own money into feeding and caring for the animals, it's not as if they all take a salary and spend the charity money on cream cakes and cigarettes, there is no money. It does not magically appear just because they need it. At the end of the day, if you want to be involved with rescuing animals in a country with no recognized charities or government shelter, SOMEONE has to pay the bills. Why don't we all pay a little bit when we can?
No slagging match here - just clarifying some things.
The last thing we need is people getting the wrong impression of QAWS and our foster policies. We do NOT have any issues with our foster pets going into boarding - many did for the last Eid and a lot of them are going into boarding for this Eid holiday as well. If it wasn't for the vets and boarding kennels we would have been stuck after the fire and I don't want people getting the wrong idea because of a misleading post on QL.
We are very grateful to all of our volunteers and we have always been the first to say that without them we wouldn't be here today.

You would think that all voluntary help would be appreciated bearing in mind without rm2007 taking in the animal for a number of days the vets bills would probably be higher and another animal would be without any extra love or some much needed attention. I appreciate it is a stressful time for all involved in QAWS. But is a slagging match over QL appropriate?
To clarify, one of your volunteers offered a full refund (and we received this in writing, via text) and therefore we accepted that. We did not initiate the request for the refund but rather accepted it.

Chelsea, I'll give you a call in a couple of days. One of my cats is a bit sick at the moment and I want to wait and see if she gets better before I bring another one in.
is currently with us at the boarding faciility run by one of our members, at the same place as the original QAWS shelter - he has not been put into other kennels as you have said.

Mandi :: Are you sure you can't squeeze in another one or three?! Thank you for your offer and there are still plenty of animals looking for foster homes so there'll be no problems finding Olive someone to take home!!
Olive :: Please call me on 5396074 and we can meet at the kennels to see if any of the cats will fit into your home for a while. All the vet bills are taken care of by QAWS as well as any grooming if required and we try to provide food and litter as well when we have large quantities donated although most foster parents don't mind covering that cost.
Jennie :: Let me know how Ms Cara gets on today and as soon as her stitches are out I'll put her on the website for rehoming!! How is your other kitty family getting on?
Arnott :: I hear Deefer was very well behaved at his first football match!! Can you send me some photos of him and a litte piece about him to [email protected] as he'd be great for our success stories page when we get it up and running!
Still over 30 animals needing foster homes..... And over 60 needing permanent homes!!
www.qaws.org
You are well aware of why he had to be returned back to QAWS and it had nothing to do with boarding arrangements. Then when requested by you, we refunded you all the money spent right down to the last bottle of shampoo.

When the fire first happened we came down the next day and fostered one of your animals. We were extremely fond of him and certainly did everything we could for him including walking/running him twice a day, paid for grooming treatment, etc, etc. As we had already planned to be away for Eid we booked him into a kennel but QAWS were not happy with us having to put the dog in a kennel for 8 days. As a result, QAWS asked for the dog to be returned and he has now gone to another kennel.
Perhaps it would be best for all would-be fosterers if you provided a very clear list of rules, guidelines, etc as to what QAWS will accept, including addressing some of the questions raised in these posts. Then everyone will know what is expected and their responsibilities. Everyone wants the best for the animals and this may help.

chelsea - if you could PM me with the details of what you want doing with the cash as ruth doesnt know her account password!
Hi Olive,
If you're really keen I'd give them a call, their numbers 5396074 (It's the same number for adopting and fostering)
Jennie
Hi Olive,
I'm currently fostering an adult cat and kitten for QAWS (and I must say they're a delight). Re vaccinations, if they're due for vaccinations QAWS will pay for it. They'll also pick the animal up and take them to the vet (though it always helps if you can take them in yourself).
Hope that helps.
PS if anybodies interested in adopting an adorable female kitten, please let me know. She's about 14 weeks old, very friendly, and likes lots of cuddles. Her brothers have been adopted already, and she's a bit lonely now. She's house trained, has had her first vaccinations and is wormed, please PM me. I'll put her photo up on my profile (Nb my current profile pic is of my grey and white cat Socks - hopefully it'll get changed by 2mora).
Thanks
Jennie
Olive, sounds like we might have a plan here - I've already got a QAWS kitty and can't foster another, but I'm certainly willing to pay vet bills if YOU'D be so gracious as to take one (or more) in. How's that for a deal! PM me.
Mandi
I'm not worried about the pick up and drop off, that I can handle. I just wasn't keen on paying the vet bills for a cat I wasn't going to keep.
Chelsea, feel free to PM me and let me know where I can pick up a kitty to foster.
Chelsea, if we are fostering are the vaccinations taken care of, or do we still have to vaccinate them?
unfortunately we cant foster or re-home as we only recently adopted Deefer however we have received a donation from a family member in Abu Dhabi who heard about fire through us.
my girlfriend has e-mailed Janet to find out the best thing to do with the cash but has had no response, i presume due to your technical difficulties listed above.
if you could PM me or 'ruthmullen' on QL to let us know what is the best use of the cash at this time. Its 300QR by the way.
Chris
Unfortunately that's not possible as how would we be able to cover the vets bills if the new owner doesnt pay them? The animals have to be vaccinated to stay in a shelter so that they dont all get sick. We don't get funding so the vets let us pay the bill when the animal is adopted and the new owner donates the money. If the previous vets costs are not covered then we will have no money to feed and water the next one that comes in.
If people are not willing to pay the vets bill then they are not the kind of owners we are looking for. We have to know they are prepared to pay money if their pet gets sick or if they have to leave the country and take the pet with them.

I suggest something that might increase the number of people adapting the animals!
Simply offer adapting for free or with a small amount of money, because what is important at this stage is to find a home for these poor animals rather than covering their previous costs! and by having more people adapting the animals the costs will reduce for u and everyone is happy!
So if u really want home for these animals just offer TRUSTED people to adapt them without cost, of course after u investigate their readiness to adapt.

Hmmm, litters of kittens might be a bit difficult, but let me check with my other half about an adult cat.
Olive - It's mainly dogs that need foster homes at the moment but we do have a couple of adult cats as well. We also need people that are willing to take on litters of kittens until they are old enough to be rehomed as we are being called about orphaned kittens all the time.
DaRuDe - the husky was rehomed.

where did it go?
Is it just Dogs for foster or are there cats as well?
