Qatar's World Cup-themed mall
A QR 3 billion (US$820 million) World-cup themed shopping mall in Doha which hopes to attract 20 million visitors a year is set to be completed in 2015 the developer said yesterday.
Developer UrbaCon Trading & Contracting said the Mall of Qatar, a 162,000 square metre mall located in Doha next to one of the future venues for the FIFA 2022 World Cup, has been designed with a FIFA theme.
Spread over a area the equivalent to 50 football pitches, the mall will include 400 stores, a hypermarket, five department stores, 20 international restaurants and multiplex cinemas.
The Chapman Taylor designed centre will incorporate a market place running to a length of three football fields with vaulted glass ceiling, opening out into a four storey high central amphitheatre food hall and entertainment zone covered with a domed roof. The mall will also include a dedicated metro station and parking for over 7,000 cars.
UrbaCon said construction on the mall which would be one of Doha's largest shopping centres, had been underway on the project since 2012 and was set to complete during the third quarter of 2015.

Oh good, because I am sure that the thousands of football fans that will visit all want to go shopping.
There is something they have to put in their minds
Cinema for adults :O)
That will be a great ambiance brit, and those found dressed immodestly will be shown a red card.
It will be great. The shop assistants will be dressed in football kits with skimpy shorts. Each door will be shaped like a goal and security guards will look like referees.
Best of all batchelors will get sent off on Fridays :O)
I just can't wait to see this one!
Huzzah!
