Qatari youth still prefer govt jobs

Qatari youth looking for jobs continue to prefer the government and semi-government sectors.

The companies attracting the most applicants at the recent trade fair were;

 - The Ministry of Business and Trade
 - The Authority for Minors’ Affairs
 - Al Jazeera satellite channel
 - Qatari Diar

Its not prestigeous at all to be in government employ... its synonymous with sitting on your a$$ doing nothing but eating KFC all day and taking tea breaks... going down to the local horse tote, and leaving before actual clocking out time....

"if you don't like the heat... get out of the kitchen... but stop trying to fan the flames before you leave... it will burn you on the a** as you go through the doorway...." ME

since QTel recruited Qatari Ladies to process bill payment the degree of customer satisfaction leaped enormously. So too in other semi government bodies, these girls were proving their worth to the world after eons of being tied to the house. Long may such efforts be rewarded. So many Qatari men regard the achievement of being appointed to a Government post at any level as proof of their own worth that any effort to work hard at involving themselves in progessing the business is unthinkable and unnecessary as it usually risky to suggest change. The sad thing is that so many have the basic ability to well, as is shown by the many business and political leaders that Qatar has produced, but too many give up at the first hurdle and are happy to collect the wages than contribute to the very necessary chnges which are coming.

they like the government is that they can work with more of their own people where in the private sector its mainly expats.

Govt jobs are more preferred for their flexibility and they consider situations at times....bt, not all Qataris are same...also not all govt employers tolerate this kind of behaviour....

Dear Qatari friends,

As we all know that ALL FIVE FINGERS ARE NOT EQUAL so here in this thread, we are talking about general behaviour/attitude of Qatari (men or women) towards their duties.

I do know many qatari people who are really very professional & nice persons. So don't feel offensive at all.

.

I do personally feel that GOVT. job is very much relaxing & very much beneficial regarding SALARY,HOLIDAYS,ACCOMODATION FACILITY and many more as one of my pakistani friend is recruited in Ministry and he is extremely happy with his job

Because ....

1.They have to work very little, get higher salaries,

2. No punctuality

3.They can use mobile during work but if any customer uses it,they will shout at them

4.No brain is involved in Ministries technical works (I.T/Accounting etc) as they are well handled by ASIANS

5. Can order any expensive food/pastries for themselves.

6. Qatari Ladies can invest huge amounts on makeups

7. hmmm well,....... guys common help me out here. Anymore ideas

It is linked to the Retail Prices Index. So as prices of common goods rise, the pension increases accordingly..

i would look at it positively, the youth of the country want to partake in the development of the country and work for the ministries. Why are we reading too much into this. I think it is good for the country.

Yes ngourlay, it's always surprised me that government jobs are considered prestigious here - because they certainly aren't in the UK.

Who is going to sweat it out when these aircon jobs pays equally more to them. Their outlook of being a national here is more towards a managements skills rather than technical which can be done by expatriate. The only disadvantages are the lacking of skills/knowledge transfer on all fields or sometimes called Job-Know-How. As long as their oil field dosen't runs dry then things will be all right. Afterall, it dosen't take a day to be a rocket scientist.

THEY PREFER GOVT. JOBS BECAUSE OF TIMEING. ONLY 6 HOURS PER DAY WEEKLY 30 HOURS. DURING RAMADAN IT IS ONLY 4 HOURS DUTY.

Working in the civil service in the UK is a badge of mediocrity. Even when I left university in the mid-1990s, unless you wanted to be a diplomat, the civil service exams were greeted with derision: "Why would you want to waste your life in the public sector?"

Maybe it's just a pay/conditions thing.

Government and semi-government employment may pay less, but offers long term security and good pensions along with less pressures.

Same in the UK, where the jobsworths get jobs for life with councils and government agencies..

bleu, the article is referring specifically to Qatari applicants.

"Oil, gas and petrochemical companies also ranked only after the above-mentioned establishments in terms of attracting Qatari job-hunters."

Where did MOBIN PANDIT get that information?? From the ministries?

I know people in O&G companies who got thousands of applicants.

LOL.... "continue to prefer".

It's because they only have to work 'part time'

I think it's because they get their salaries in time from these employers.
