Qatar Airways-Your 5 star Airline

waelz
By waelz

Travel by air has reached the point where it is now taken for granted in most corners of the globe. With larger number of passengers and more choice available in the skies, airlines looking to maintain and grow their position in the marketplace must provide a high-quality service with ever-increasing efficiency.

In this highly competitive environment, award-winning Qatar Airways has undergone a phenomenal expansion period, with an average of 35% growth year-on-year for the past 10 years. Along the way, the airline has garnered many awards and accolades, becoming one of only five airlines worldwide to have been awarded a five-star rating by Skytrax, an independent aviation industry monitor.

Our commitment is to provide travellers with the highest quality of service in the air and on the ground. Qatar Airways will grow these services as we continue along our path of expansion and quest to become known globally as the best airline in the world.

QR is the classic case of state-backed monopoly. They get all the government travel and so they are assured of business in that sense. The other factor is that its a prestige issue tol keep this airline as a "five-rats airline" !!! They also do a lot of arm-twisting with other airlines who are operating in Qatar. Anyways, they will continue like this as long as they are not financially accountable !!!

True Xena....thats quite arrogant of him to think people will keep "traveling with us again and again..." even after pointing out how bad the service was.

"presumptuous" - of you waelz, by saying 'but watever u say we wil stay 5 star airlines and u will travel with us again and again..."

Due to QA and their shoddy service and exhorbitant pricing, our parent company has decided to use other airlines to fly our staff home on their annual vacations - with a staff of about 2 000, wouldn't you think thats a big loss to your Airlines?

But this is the problem with Customer Services in Doha in general... they seem to forget that we are paying their salaries and we demand service and respect, and treat us more like they are doing us a HUGE favour by even entertaining our presence.....

is definitely not the 5 star airline they claim to be.

I was due to fly out with Etihad last thursday morning, unfortunately due to technical problems we were on the plane 2 hours before the flight was cancelled, they even gave us drinks and a sandwich while on the plane. When we all got off, we were told we could go and have something to eat and they were paying while they sorted out another flight for us. Although this did take some time,  Etihad managed to get me on a QA flight to the UK that was due to go out in the early hours on friday morning. I then went to the Etiahd office in Doha airport and was told they would sort out my ticket and to come back for it 3 hours before my flight. They told me not to worry about my luggage as they would sort it out for me & put it on the correct flight. When I got there  3 hours before my flight, I was offered 300 USD for the inconvenience it had caused me. Now to me, that was good service.

Anyway back to QA, when I was on the flight I asked for a drink, that never arrived,  so I  asked again,  that took them 1/2 to get it to me and not even a smile. Luckily for me, my flight back is with Etiahd.

Etihad have geat customer service and great service on their flights, you even get proper knives and forks with the lovely meal they serve and more leg room. The price I paid for my ticket was cheaper than QA, I know I had change at Abu Dhabi but it is only a short wait before the connection but if I need to change the flight, I can at no extra charge. To do that with QA would cost me a fortune.

Give me Etihad anytime!!

know that you have "stolen" his statement which refers specifically to the five star service.

This from the Qatar Airways web-site.

You have to take everything you are told here with a pinch of salt. I have never been anywhere where misinformation is so rife as it is here. Maybe she was right about having to be a resident, maybe not. I got one for Dubai without any problem and when you get them here, they just look at your passport.

You should give it a try. When are you over here next? I wanna come see you in Bahrain.

e-gate passes are awesome - plus they make you feel all special and important compared to the plebs queuing up!

From the couple of times I've flown QA I wouldn't say they did anything to justify their 5 star rating, or more importantly to justify their more expensive tickets.

We were one of the first paying customers on Qatar Airways when it initially started with just a couple of aircraft.

At least at that time everyone was trying to make it a success but they feel they don't have too now.

Waelz I did something similar to PM - i WAS a big QA fan too.

I called and called

I wrote several letters/emails - all polite and nice - about bags being lost twice - !

 NO FOLLOW UP!

other incidents have been very rude ground staff...including the ticketing office on airport road.

I actually told off a QA staff member at the airport for talking rudely to a colleague in front of customers.

Loads and loads of little things like that!

As I say of all the airlines I have flown (many) the ground crew here in Doha for QA remind me of the good old days of communism.

You can't have professional service if you don't have professional stuff. The management sucks, the crew is treated like an bunch of 5years old kids and there is more and more to add.

Emirates  has  a CEO with a vision to make 5star quality, international airline.Qatarairways are trying to copy that, but if possible free of charge!

I feel for all the people working with them...The salary are decreased and I heard that they took a lot from housing allowance .What about the 10pm "be at home" situation???These are grown up people...Are you joking me...

I have only travelled by Q airways since I was in Qatar and I have found that as far as cleanliness goes, it is one of the best airlines; but regarding hospitality and the food- if the flight is empty the service is good, if the flight  is crowded , then even you don't get your choice of food. Sometimes they give you the menu card and say choose what you want and when we ask for one particular item ,they say they have run out of stock.

Even on the business class I feel that the services depend on the destination - there is a certain amount of discrimination involved I feel.

Maybe the staff are too tired or overworked and we don't see them at their best.

I feel that QR does not always deserve the fame that it has got .

from what I hear....

crew have to endure alot of things that other airlines don't impose...stricter rules..curfews..and terminations with unjust cause. The service is also very rigid. For instance a two hour flight would still provide a hotmeal.

In a seven hour flight they serve food twice and are also compelled to serve drinks inbetween. There are times when there is not enough time and some passengers would ask for things when the aircraft is about to land. What people don't know is that alot of preparation is done by crew before landing. Sometimes..crew are strapped for time and tense to finish it all.

On the other hand...out of thousands of employees..there are those that love their job and will just feel compelled to give good service to the best of their ability. It just comes naturally. There are people that are just lazy, unhappy or have negative feelings about their job hence they come  out acting rude and impatient.

IS Qatar Airways a five star airline? well, it certainly STRIVES to be. The question now is : IS it the thought that counts?

On Bahrain air, it will cost usually BD44. to fly with QA, the same flight costs BD 70 .

Now the only difference is that on QA, yer get a little sandwich to go with yer carton of water. You get water on Bahrain air as well, so that pathetic little (tuna ?) sandwich costs you approx BD35 or QR 350....

How can that be right. ?

You wont hear any stories about the things you are doing right, because that is what you are supposed to do.

.After all, people are paying a lot of their hard earned money to fly.

You are providing a service industry, so service the customers accordingly.

I agree fares are refundable, but you have to go to a much higher price, and do you think the workers for example can afford that? I don't think so! And the date change penalty! The minimum is 350, but for the lower prices is 550+fare different+reissue charge! It's usuallt the same price then to buy a completely new ticket on a cheaper airline!

From one side it's good, because people tended to change ticket every time, but from other side, in this country because of the exit permits, and signature and all other shits it's unpredictable for many people whether they can travel or not. Emirates and Gulf Air is still free for reservation change in most cases!

But with the service I didn't have any problem.

Although you have a sales executive (an indian guy) who is so rude he pisses off the office every time he comes!

ethad is the best no doubts; but gulf is better because they r affraid to loose not like others. All other airlines are more powerfull than gulf and people obliged to travel with them.

anyway i didn't said gulf is the best i said that ''the service is better''.  Also what i prefer is france air and i don't think they operate from qatar.

in all cases we hope the qatar airways  take consideration according to the prices or at least make some offers.

Al Maha Service to speed up the immigration ? How on earth we have to pay extra ?

I found Al Maha service also go down the drain. I booked one for my mum departing trip leaving Qatar next week. The girl who served me can't lend me a pen to fill up the form. And dare telling me how come i dont bring a pen? I told her i dont work ... she does ... ! They dont even have change for receiving payment from the customer. They told me i have to change the money somwhere else. For less than 30 mins work ... i paid QR 125 for my mum service, the Al Maha counter dont even have a pen and a proper cashier system? USELESS !!!

part of the problem with the rude cabin crew is the rude passengers.    They try to show people their seats and then people don't sit down.  They want to try to sit elsewhere.    Our plane was held up for 20 minutes last flight by a group of Egyptian women arguing with the crew because all 12 of their party were not sitting right next to each other.   It took forever to sort it all out.

US Carriers have much friendlier crews, BUT   you don't even get free peanuts anymore.   After traveling 14 hours to get to the US, I have about 14 more hours to get home, and they have NO food or total crap food you have to pay for, on US carriers now.  At least QR  still feeds you.

QR has a long way to go before they become a real 5-star airline.  They can learn a lot from Emirates.

I have got excellent service from Emirates everytime and at every stage - right from booking till I landed.

I have had bitter experiences with QR but whenever I travelled with them, the cabin crew were very polite. But thats not the only aspect of air travel.

you wanna improve... sort out that scrum at the immigration, last time i visited, there was nearly 300 people waiting, and only 7 desks working...Not what yer call service.

And dont give me any of that crap about the airport is a seperate department, they are all in the same boat. The last thing any visitors need after a long journey is over an hours wait.

There, rant over !

not very impressed with QR. Wont be our first choice while we travel. I dont know how can they claimed all those awards ??? Did they make it up ???

cabin crew are mostly plain rude ...

although i agree with waelz ... refund depend on the price of the ticket, if you get cheapest ticket somewhere in the ticket you will see 'non refundable and non reroutable'. Waelz ... before you complimenting QR ... go and travel more with other airlines then you can say how good QR is.

i already said this in the other thread about QR ... the only good thing about QR is just happened we know few families that works as QR Pilots, they are very nice and down to earth people.

their policy of not refunding the tickets in emergency cases is really a five star service. the signing of looong undertaking at the time of purchasing ticket is also applaudable.

no doubt a five star service for all travellers
